This has got to be the worst film i have ever seen, so surprised after seeing the star cast. Do not buy this it was so boring and only had one funny scene, which for a supposed comedy is appauling.

This is the worst film I have ever bought

I bought this DVD on the recomendation of a friend I can normally trust. Seeing the trailer and that it had George Clooney, Brad Pitt and John Malkovitch in it I thought it looked like a nice jolly bit of nonsense for a relaxing evening.
It had no plot and far too many unnecessary expletives. A sad disappointment.

Burn after Reading could not be anymore different then there last film No Country For Old Men.

Burn after Reading is a dark comedy concerning the lives of four characters, played by John Malkovich, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Frances Mcdormand. Jonh Malkovich plays Ozzy, a CIA anylasist who quits the CIA when he is downgraded due to his drinking problem, so he decides to write a tell it all book about his life in the CIA.

However soon things go bad when a copy of his memoirs are left behind in a local gym were dim witted workers Chad Feldheimer (Brad Pitt) and Linda Litzke (Frances McDormand) happen to stumble across it and decide to blackmail Ozzy. Whilst this is going on Ozzy's wife Katie Cox (Tilda Swinton) is having an affair with sex addicted Harry Pfarrer (George Clooney) and is getting ready to divorce Ozzy. Slowly things go bad to worse as all the characters do everything wrong and leave a huge mess in their wake.

Joel and Ethan Coen's script is razor sharp with quick witted jokes and satirical digs at the CIA. The acting is excellent with the cast clearly having fun, especially George Clooney and Brad Pitt, who both reliesh the chance at playing such moronic characters.

However once it gets going it seems to be over all to quickly and some may feel cheated by the way the script wraps it all up so neatly at the end.

Overall whilst Burn after Reading isnt the best film by the Coen brothers it is still a fantasic film and much better the most of the other comedies out there. But be warned this is not a feel good family comedy, the little violence that is in the film is bloody and shocking and it isnt a comedy you could sit and watch with all your friends talking and having a beer, you need to concentrate to keep track or you will end up getting lost, and unlike almost all comedies this one leaves you with something to think about at the end.

8/10

An absolute gem from those brilliant directors the Coen brothers - a comic masterpiece that even manages to make Hollywood hunks George Clooney and Brad Pitt seem like dorks. It's a delightfully tangled tale of spies, sex addicts, murder, internet dating - and physical fitness! The top-drawer cast also includes Frances McDormand, John Malcovich and Tilda Swinton.

This dvd is superb. Osbourne Cox (played by John Malkovich) is a CIA analyst who quits his job at the agency, after being demoted mainly because of his drinking problem.

He then decides to write a memoir about his life in the CIA.

His wife, Katie Cox (played by Tilda Swinton), wants to divorce Osbourne and, at the counsel of her divorce lawyer, she copies many of his personal and financial files off his computer, and on to an optical disc.

Katie's lover is Treasury agent Harry Pfarrer (played by George Clooney).

The disc eventually finds its way to Hardbodies, a workout gym. An employee of the gym, Chad Feldheimer (played by Brad Pitt) obtains the disc from the gym's custodian, and ascertains that it contains classified government information.

Along with his fellow employee Linda Litzke (played by Frances McDormand), he intends to use the disk to blackmail Osbourne - as Linda needs the money to pay for cosmetic surgery.

They call up Cox in the middle of the night, but he is not receptive to the idea of blackmail.

So when blackmailing him fails, Linda decides to take the information to the Russian embassy.

At the embassy, she hands the disk over to the Russians, promising that she will give more information afterwards, to keep the money rolling in.

Because Linda and Chad don't have any more information, they decide to break into Cox's house, to see what else they can dig up.

Mayhem ensues.................well worth watching !!!!!!!

Quite disappointing - no real story line and thought it would be much better with all the famous cast - George looks poorly and just could not wait for it to finish and the ending was terrible - would not watch again and do not know where the reviews come from but I did not find it funny at all

Review created: 20/09/09

George Clooney is probably one of the finest actors around today.Although this is not his best film to date it has one of those storylines that wont let you walk away once you start watching it.With a fine cast behind him it is a film well worth watching more than once or twice.I am surprised that George hasnt made more of this kind of film because i thimk his comedy in places is very clever.Oh well back to more movie searching on ebay.M.R.Browning.

I bought this for my husband who has all the Coen brothers other DVDs
It was a great film with the usual twists and turns of the Coen Brothers films.
It all came together in the end and I know that my husband will be watching it at least a couple of times more, as the more you watch the film you notice another bit you missed before.
Ten out of ten for a great film

This is a masterpiece of whit and irony. The storyline is pretty well covered elsewhere so I will just add that it is a tale for the more discerning viewer who can identify readily with the professional situations explored through the characters with deftness and humour. The all star cast do this film great credit and by virtue of their own strong personalities, add an element of comprehension that could have been overlooked by lighter weight actors. In watching this film the word "schadenfruede" springs to mind. Enjoy!
