The Burbs is a cult classic black comedy directed by Joe Dante and stars Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher and Corey Fledman among other reocognisable faces.
The story is based around a group of suburbanites and their obsession with a strange new family in the neighbourhood called the Clopeks. Their overactive imaginations lead them to delve deeper into the odd activities taking place at the Clopek residence, such as the strange noises coming from the basement, digging up the back yard in the middle of the night (like grave diggers) and the general odd behaviour of the family.
What makes this film so appealing is that this could take place in any neighbourhood you care to think of. The suburb is otherwise very ordinary - set routines, nosy neighbours and typical banter you would find in a quiet suburb.
The Burbs features a fantastic cast, lively script and some genuine laughs. The characters are all fantastic to watch and you learn to love them all for their individual qualities (of which there are many).
This is the uncut version of one of the best films I have ever seen. The only part I have never noticed before was the inclusion of a four letter swear word in one scene (for those who want to know, it begins with "s"). I didn't notice any other differences to when it is on television.
This DVD only includes a 90 second teaser trailer from when the film was released but the film is so good you shouldn't let the lack of extras put you off. This is easily one of my all time favourite films. Very little comes anywhere close to the quality of this little gem. An incredible film!

The burbs starts of by introducing us to typical family man, Ray Peterson (Tom Hanks) His wife wants them to go on vacation, but Ray is reluctant, and wants to spend his time hanging around the house doing nothing. There is a new family on the street - the Klopeks , having lived there a month now, and having never introduced themselves to their neighbours, the neigbourhood becomes suspicious about the new residents. They have been hiding out in their house, and only seen at night digging around in their backyard. Rumors begin to fly as to what the strange neighbors might be doing. When one of the neighbours disapears, Ray, and the gang snoop around to investigate their new neighbours. The burbs is a dark comedy look at suburban life, nosy neighbours and dark secrets lurking beneath the floor boards of the house next door. Joe Dante does a good job of balancing the comedy and the creepy bits. If your a Tom Hanks fan, and enjoy your movies with an odd sense of humour, then you may enjoy this little gem.

Me and my brother watched this all the time when younger... Its so funny!
Hanks is such an amazing actor, he really makes 'The Burbs' hilarius, lines like ' Ive... ive never seen that, Ive never seen anybody drive thier garbage down to the bottom of the street and bang the hell out of it with a stick.... ive never seen that!' A line like that Hanks can make funny! He truely is a legend!
Its exactly what a black comedy should be like! A real treat!

Excellent classic film that can be viewed over again - one for all the family. Tom Hanks in his better days as a comic actor. I brought the dvd because it is one of my favorite films and makes a great Saturday night in movie.

I love this film- it's a childhood favourite and an all round 80s classic. Starring Tom Hanks, it features a weird family who move into a surburban street only to be terrorised by their neighbours who believe them to be psychotic murderers.
It's so funny and hammed up! I bought this film because it's the kind of film I can watch over and over without tiring of. Me and my friends will get into our pyjamas and watch it on a girly night in. Guys will also watch it- though you probably won't watch it in your pyjamas with your mates- because you're men-grrrr.
My favourite bit is when Tom Hanks and his neighbour look into the camera and scream for a good 7 seconds!

this is one of the best clasic comedys with perfect casting a fantasticly funny story line and amazing characters all in all i can say the burbs is one of my favourite movies ever if you havent watched it yet i reccomend it:O)

This is such a must, I can't believe more people do not know about it. It makes me wet my pants whenever I watch it and has some classic lines and characters that will cause you to share constant jokes with whoever has seen it! To avoid being left out of these in-jokes, go watch it....it is SO hilarious and Tom Hanks and others are damn hilarious!

This movie is a classic. This is one of Tom Hanks earlier movies. It's about these neighbors who think that the new neighbors are strange. They have no idea what happened to the old neighbors. Being men, they naturally want to investigate.
You'll have to watch the movie to see whats up with the neighbors. And if Tom Hanks survives.

The BurbsHave seen this film on many occasions and still makes me laugh - so I bought it.
Not Tom Hank's best comedy roll (see Turner & Hooch or Dragnet). But works well with the cast to make this the best it can be.

This film is in my top ten.
Brilliantly funnny and has a great cast, for a small film the acting is quite amazing. Even smsall buts throughout like the background actors reacting to their name when mentioned in the script, it is all very impressive. anyway you dont care about that you want to know what the film is about don toyu. well basically it about a man who lives next door to a group of individuals who never leave their house or are seen, so her starts to belive that they are up to somehting along with his neighbours and friends. this in turn turns into an obsessiona nd there we go we have a film to watch.

Now, how many times Have i watched this movie-at least a good 4-5 times and I never stopped laughing at each viewing.Tom Hanks is just great.His performance in the movie is undoubtedly one of the best that I have seen.It is a must see movie.

No complaints, although any chance of cheaper P&P. I know there probably is none oh well.
I'm still quite new to the whole E bay 'thing', but am loving it. Found loads of bargains over Christmas and apparently got a gold star for being a good shopper. (aka paying on time). Not really sure what to make of the messages I keep getting saying they are changing E bay, hopefully not too much I've only just got the hang of it.
I'm still browsing but trying to keep the spending to a minimum, it got to the point I was getting a parcel every couple of days. Well not alot else to say except E bay is probably the best invention in the history of man kind, and that includes the wheel!!! Lorraine Molloy

The BurbsI love this movie! I first saw it years ago and found it so hilarious, i just had to buy it when i saw it on ebay. I recomend this film to anyone who likes to laugh at silly things. Definately one of Tom Hanks's funniest films.

very funny film has a good sense of humour in a beleavable way. a nice twist at the end of the film making you think they are not murderers whene they actualy are. i recommend it to anyone.
