Brotherhood (DVD)

I bought this film on ebay as I had been told that the battle scenes were as good as in Saving Private Ryan.

The story is set in June 1959 and told through the eyes of two brothers, who have seen their family torn apart by the Korean war. Brotherhood is an epic and heart wrenching story, which heralds the triumph of the human spirit in the midst of overwhelming suffeing and sacrifice.

The Film is 142 mins long and has English Subtitles.

my father is a korean war veteran he was unable to go to korea for a reunion...
the korean war veteran sociaty in conjunction with the korean goverment..have made available several places for the grandchildren of these veterans, my niece was lucky to be chosen to represent my father, so we purchased dvd for her to watch to give her some insight as to what the koreans were up against..she enjoyed the film ...And will be going to korea in the next few days.. a lot more knowledgeable

An excellent film to rival the best of the war films, very realistic scenes and superb acting, not for the faint hearted

This stands high in the 'war movie' genre. Its hard to think of anything from recent times that matches this movie in anyway (either world cinema or domestic). An emotionally charged fight for survival that drags you along for the ride. There are obvious techniques inspired by Saving Private Ryan, but I would say this trumps it.

The chaos and in parts pure brutallity of the combat scenes really display the true horrors of war and the affect it has on the people caught up in it. The acting is flawless the affects are realistic and fairly gorery in part. The story is belivable and so are the charecters . The film also makes you realise the phycological affects of war on both the troops and the familys.

10/10 If only the west could make war films to this standard.

Very good action scenes and reflect life on the front line of an Army at War. I would have liked some kind of reference point in the film, for eg "Where was the Town/Village of the two main characters in relation to the front line of the conflict". The serious - as it turned out - question of the poor starving people going to Communist Rallys in order to get food - wasn't explained fully enough because of the actions taken by the South Koreans that turned the two brothers against one another. I can remember the Korean War, so this forgotten War being resurrected in this way was, in my opinion, quite brilliant. The sub titles didn't spoil it for me in anyway. truseskyblue
