It's no 'I'm Wide Awake...' but it's still good
Review created: 19/05/08

Some fantastic lyricism on this album, but musically it is nowhere near as soft or as heart-wrenchingly beautiful as usual Bright Eyes fare. It's entertaining, it's interesting, and you still get the expected, 'I know exactly what he means' feeling when lyrics such as, 'I should feel cheap but I just feel free' crop up.

But do not start your Bright Eyes collection here. I cannot recommend 'I'm Wide Awake It's Morning' enough. That is a perfect album. Almost.

Both albums carry a unique sound, and have a distinctive "sound" from one another (the other half being I'm wide awake its morning). On this album, as the name implies, the style veers more to digital production with the distinctive squeal of electonic noises throughout. It does maintain the consistency of Conor Oberst's beautiful voice and magical lyric writing. A good album, but for my tastes I prefer the other half...
