One of the greatest war films ever made. The all star cast fit together well and give a reasonably accurate account of the operation.
In parts the Americans seem to make out the Brits as inefficient bunglers, not sure if they actually though that or they were. Mistakes are always made. Excellent performances form Sean Connery and Anthony Hopkins. Superb film score.

A classic. A stellar cast, action, human stories and history all rolled into one. We had this film in video format and had to get it on DVD.

  Operation Market Garden - WW2

This DVD is a must for your collection.

This War Film has to be one of my favourites. It is based on the Allied bold gamble Operation Market Garden which culmintes with a significant allied parachute force into Holland (Sept 1944)whose objectives was to capture a series of bridges intact which would allow the Allies to strike into the heart of Germany and shorten the war.
The story ultimately results in failure for the Allies through a combination of battlefield politics, poor intelligence bad luck and worse weather.

The cast in this epic includes Dirk Bogarde, Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Edward Fox,Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier,Ryan O'Neal and Robert Redford.

The film is directed by Richard Attenborough.
My personal recommendation is the 2 disc special edition which includes Special Features, documentary, widescreen version which is 2 Hours 49 Mins filmed in Colour.
The DVD is available in English and French Soundtrack and in addition to these 2 there are a further 10 other subtitled languages

If your an oldy like me and love war films with plenty of action this one is not to miss, but make sure you have a night free, because its a long film. All the leading actors play good and convincing parts, and from what my relatives told me (most are dead now) who were involved in Operation MARKET GARDEN from their perspective it is reasonably accurate.

The definitive European war film. We lose. Sets the mold for others to follow, such as Kelly's Heros. The first time I saw this film it was in black and white and full of commercials and cut out the curse words. It's nice to see it on DVD in all it's original glory.

A great film loaded with stars and a fitting tribute to a lot of very brave men.
The film tells the true stories of allied troops trying to take, Hold and Secure three bridges to then be able to cross the Rhine and thus shorten the war in Europe.

For me this is one of the best (Hollywood) war films. Its cast of big actors show just how important this battle was for WW2.
I am a little bias because WW2 is a topic of extreme interest but this all action war movie would bring a smile to even a pasivists face.

One of the best war films ever made, goes into the classic warmovie category, From the unforgettable theme tune ( which you will be whistling long after the film has finished)to the realistic action scenes. Showing both sides of Operation Market Garden (ie: Axis & Allies viewpoints. The cast is also a memourable one ( and quite A line up too).

This film does not pull punches and shows the pitfuls of the operation from the getgo. The poor recon around Arnham, the lack of transport for the Paras ( especially the Polish Brigade), the logistical nightmare of supplies and the one road 30 Corps had to take to name but a few.

An EPIC among epics.
10 stars all the way.

One of the all time greats, a brilliant documentary style feature. Next time you're moaning about being stuck in traffic just remember it could always be worse, you could always be one of the poor buggers trying to cross that River.

For me this is a 5/5 any day of the week.
As far as movies go this is historically accurate and it is in my eyes, an absolute epic.
An all star cast give top notch performances and the battle sequences are amazing. None of the over the top hollywood hero B**lsh*t we see in movies today.
Basically an accurate account of real life events which stands repeated veiwing and a film I strongly recommend you buy.

Quite a superb film, and historically correct, an all star cast including Anthony Hopkins (stiff upper lip chaps !!), Michael Caine (another stiff upper lip) Ryan O Neal, Robert (The Brave) Redford, Edward Fox (What war film WOULDN'T be complete without him !!) Gene Hackman (grumpy Polish Commander) Dirk Bogarde etc etc....if you've never seen this film and you like war films..why haven't you bought it ?
