There is so much that has been wrote about the history of the legendary Beach Boys album that never was; that of "Smile". I'm not going to go on about that, but some 30 years later Brian got it together; did what once seemed impossible. Beat his demons and we have a great CD at the end of it. The songs, some of which are familier; the "Smile" material filtering down to many of the final Capitol recordings the Boys did, not to mention their later records. But here, in "Smile" is the way everything was meant to sound. And it works. It fits together brilliantly, not a dud track anywhere. Even tracks which may have jarred in their original incarnation, such as "Vegetables" on Smiley Smile, sound right here; the re-working. The time spent polishing and perfecting the vision.
It is not time that was wasted.
This is a CD that should be in everyone's collection. Both for the triumph it represents, and for the quality of songs contained upon it. Not to mention, that Brian was right. That smiles are powerful things. And the music does much, not least of which is leave you smiling. Just as Brian believed it would.

  Sehr gelungene Darbietung
Review created: 07/02/09

"Good Vibrations" runden das Bild ab. Ein perfektes Werk.

  Brian Wilson presents Smile

A strange mixture here. Anybody being presented with this CD and not knowing the story could, in part dismiss this as selfish indulgence.Well, do so at your peril ! This was going to be the greatest rock record of all time, sadly, it never got finished.I don't go along with the claim, never will, but there are some masterpieces in here that have stood the test of time just as surely as have the works from classical composers and more recent popular writers. Two, maybe three generations have arrived since this record was composed. Why not give it a listen ? Lets face it, it won't break the bank and most certainly there will be something here for you, my own favourite is the centerpiece of the CD " Surfs Up"
