Boys Don't Cry (DVD 2002)

Quite simply....astounding! Beautifully acted superb story...quite disturbing at times though and really pulls at your heart strings. 5*

Brilliant film about a young female who has confusion of the gender she feels she should be. She decides to try being a boy by dressing up in mens clothes and developing an alter ego. She leaves her life in search of another. On her travels she meets a group of people who accept her into their group not knowing she is a women. The young he (she) ends up falling for a beautiful women in the group and vise versa bt she doesn't he is a she.
Eventually she is found out to devasting consequences.

excellent film, a love story with a difference, very moving, we loved this fim, the acting is second to none, terrific!!!

This is a touching true story of a person struggling to find the courage to be themselves in the face of adversity. Hilary Swank is captivating in the role of Brandon Teena, a performance well deserving of her academy award.

The film is harrowing and touching, moving and amusing all at once and is definitely a movie you should see at least once in your lifetime.

great acting , makes you feel full of mixed emotions, some scenes are harrowing to watch, hid my face sometimes but was kept enthralled to the end

This was a great film based on a true story of Brendan Teena, who was a transexual (in this case a boy trapped inside a female body). Brendan tries to fit in with everybody else as a male and find love, but sadly Brendan gets killed in the end by the very people that he was friends with because they felt lied to. It is a great drama and moving story. Hilary Swank plays Brendan brilliantly throughtout this film. It is a shame that people like Brendan today are subjected to abuse because of their gender that is different from their bodies. This film points out that people like Brandan only want to be accepted and to fit in with society.

Brilliant Fantastic seen before but its a watch over and over again film. Opens your eyes to what life used to be like and how much its changed over the years Hilary Swank is a fantastic actress and she deserved her oscar for that.

outstanding dvd have been trying to get this film since the first time i watched it on tv shame there arnt more dvds like this won to be onest i think the film just about sums up life with the people that struggle with thier sexual differance and how people see them

Really good film, hilary was fantastic very beleavable in her roll as tina/branden. GREAT story line , but a little vilolent in one scence which gave an uneasy feeling. Super plot and acting.

It's a very well acted film by all involved but Swank is outstanding. She plays a very lovable character and it's written so you do actually feel happiness, empathy and sadness for the characters.

The first time you watch this film you will be all consumed, it's just one of those films, such as The Magdalene Sisters, it's powerful, hard hitting and in some parts down right shocking.

A must to view and definitely worth a buy, make sure you have a tissue with you when you watch it, your heart is made of stone if you don't cry.

really good film based on true life events, lots of drama!!!!! a love story but not qwite so straight forward,deffintly worth watching, afew years old but i always say older films are better.

I bought this dvd as i happened to stumble on it one night on sky, near the beginning and once i had read the description of the film i was instantly captivated! This film is amazing and so sad, especially when you know it was based on real life events. The story is best described as harrowing as you see the lengths this woman teena brandon would go to, to affirm her role and place in life and the risks and measures she will take to be with the woman she loves, even risking certain death if her true gender is discovered (she masquerades as a man named brandon teena. Hilary Swank does an amazing job at depicting the troubled teen whose life is progressively spiralling out of control and who constantly seems to be destined to make the wrong choices and lead a tragic existence! The movies love story between her and chloe sevigny i felt was believable and compelling, especially the relationship that teena ascertains with chloe's friends and family, especially that of her violent 'trailer trash' brother! Wondeful and sad, yet a thoroughly worth while film to purchase, even though it is not one to watch repeatedly as it is so sad and has scenes of violence that are particularly disturbing. Its wonderful and a film i would reccommend to all, especially those who are constantly struggling to define who they are and their role in life, in a world where gender roles are strictly defined and the idea of what it is to be a woman and what this entails is extremely marginalized! 5 stars!!

this is one of the most touching films i have seen it makes you imagine what her life was about and how she felt about being misunderstood and scared about her sexuality and about peoples ignorance about not wanting to try to understand something that they consider different and not 'normal' i love the film its not just entertainment but it is informative and more importantly its real.
