Album Notes Bob Marley & The Wailers includes: Bob Marley (vocals, guitar); Peter Tosh, Bunny Livingstone (vocals). Includes liner notes by Laurence Cane-Honeysett.This 20-song compilation contains so many great songs, known and unknown, that listening to it feels like one long joyful process of discovery. The best thing is that Marley's biggest and most overplayed hits are nowhere to be found, and the concentration is instead squarely on his innovative R&B-influenced work from the late '60s and early '70s. "Put It On," "Jah Is Mighty," "Cornerstone," "Duppy Conqueror," and "My Cup" are just a few of rasta-soaked tracks included here.A handful of cuts, like the psychedelic funk of "Mr. Brown," the bright "No Water," the Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer showcases "Rebel's Hop" and "Brand New Second Hand," are alone worth the price of the set. Equally notable are the production treatments of studio legend Lee "Scratch" Perry. Minor sound quality issues aside (one must remember the time and circumstances under which these recordings were made), BOB MARLEY is a meaty compendium of some of the legend's rawest, most compelling early work.
