Album Notes
Personnel: Bob Dylan (vocals, guitar); Buddy Cage (steel guitar); Paul Griffin (organ); Tony Brown (bass); Eric Weissberg, Deliverance.Includes liner notes by Pete Hamill.By the mid-'70s, even Dylan's most ardent supporters began taking his artistic decline for granted. Albums like NEW MORNING and PLANET WAVES were fine works, but lacked the visionary spark of his seminal '60s recordings. At 34 he was already being written off as a has-been. That presumption is what made BLOOD ON THE TRACKS such a glorious sucker-punch of a record. One of Dylan's most mournful efforts, this album, which easily ranks among his best, is full of stories about lost love and the struggle for peace of mind. With a simple, country-flavored backing somewhat akin to NASHVILLE SKYLINE, he recounts shattered love affairs in heart-breaking detail on songs like "Simple Twist Of Fate" and "If You See Her Say Hello." On the vengeful "Idiot Wind" he rails mercilessly against the ignorant and self-obsessed a la "Like A Rolling Stone." The difference here, and the major breakthrough for Dylan, is that by the end of the song, he's lumping himself in with those he excoriates so vehemently.

  Great Album
Review created: 26/06/08

There are a few great songs on this album, the three that stand out for me are "Idiot Wind", "Tangled Up In Blue" and "Simple Twist Of Fate". Not to say that the other seven tracks are bad. I really enjoy this album as I do most Dylan albums.

A must have for any poet, would be poet, lover, guitarist, acoustic enthusiast...in fact anyone with a heart.Dylans heart seems to be bleeding, with the pain of his tangled lovelife, but the sheer poetry of the lyrics, and beauty of his playing is astounding, timeless, and though I've heard this alum thoousands of times I will NEVER get sick of it,as its my favourite album EVER of all time, and has been since I was a kid.Give it a listen if you never have, and enjoy!!!!!Its amazing, full of soul, pain, with some lighter bits thrown in.The man is a genius and this album is testament to this.Classic, groundbreaking, historically important and poetically significant.

  An all time classic
Review created: 29/01/08

This is one of the greatest albums ever made. Written at a time when Bob was splitting up with his wife, it is a heart-wrenching collection of songs - at times tender and beautiful (You're gonna make me lonesome when you go) and at times evil and bitter (Idiot wind) but always beautiful. And it includes classic story songs like Tangled up in Blue which never ceases to amaze with the rbeadth of its vision. Dylan's sense of melody and his vocals have never been better. If you don't think of yourself as a Dylan fan, this is a fine place to start. If you already know his genius, well then you'll have to own this album.
