Album Notes Personnel: Bob Dylan (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Robbie Robertson (guitar); Charlie McCoy (harmonica); Hargus Robbins (piano); Al Kooper (organ); Kenneth Buttrey (drums); Wayne Moss, Jerry Kennedy, Joe South, Bill Aikins, Henry Strzelecki.Principally recorded at Columbia Recording Studios, Nashville, Tennessee. Only a year after HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED, Dylan miraculously topped himself with further epigrams of surrealistic poetry and emotional intrigue. The pressure of a punishing touring schedule and high public profile helped drive him to an unbelievable fit of creativity as he spontaneously scribbled these gems in his hotel rooms. We were spoiled with a double album, more Dylan music than we had previously heard, yet still destined to endure. BLONDE ON BLONDE surrounds the folk-rock bard with the likes of Al Kooper, Robbie Robertson, Charlie McCoy and Kenny Buttrey, all seasoned musicians giving this album a relaxed confidence quite unlike the youthful energy of HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED. Decades later this album still rewards and surprises. A gigantic record in every sense. Editorial Reviews NME (10/02/1993) Q (01/01/2000) Mojo (10/01/2003) Q (01/01/2000) | |||||||||||||
Reviews Review created: 19/07/08 by: The first thing I noticed about this release was how c**p it has instantly made the original cd release sound. Everything suddenly starts jumping out at you, instruments start appearing in the mix that I never realised were there.. The original cd issue of this album by Sony in the early 90's is very dull and lifeless by comparison to this version. Incidently this is me only listening to it on a normal stereo system and not through a SACD system (I can only imagine how magical it would sound then)... I also adore the fact the original artwork has been reinstated and the cd has been issued as a double disc, as opposed to the single disc version of the original (complete with chopped off sections of 'Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands'... If you are only discovering Dylan for the first time, then this is 'THE' album to get your hands on... a classic in every sense of the word. The man truely was on fire at this period, and it magically seaps into the entire recording process.. If your already a Dylan fan, and are thinking of upgrading from your old version, then I'd highly recommend it, having just done exactly the same thing ++++++ Review ID: 10000000008025733 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 09/07/08 by: THIS ALBUM EXISTS IN ANOTHER DIMENSION ,THERE WAS NOTHING TO COMPARE EITHER BEFORE OR AFTER ITS RELEASE .IT HAS NO PLACE IN TIME,IT CAN NOT REPRESENT THE PAST NOR IDENTIFEY WITH THE FUTURE.IT CREATES ITS OWN WORLD,IT DOES NOT NEED AIR TO BREATHE,IT CREATES ITS OWN ATMOSPHERE, IN REALITY THIS ALBUM COULD NEVER EXIST,IT COULD NEVER BE RECORDED,IF IT DID IT WOULD CHANGE THE COURSE OF HISTORY. PEOPLE MIGHT ASK QUISTIONS ,REBEL AGAINST THE SYSTEM,GOD KNOWS EVEN DROP OUT OF COLLEGE . OTHER MUSICIANS MIGHT HERE THIS,AND IT MIGHT EVEN INSPIRE THE IDEA OF THE CONCEPT ALBUM .EVEN THE BEATLES AND BEACHBOYS MIGHT TURN WIERD IF THEY GET TO HEAR THIS KIND OF THING,LET ALONE THOSE ROLLING STONES . IT MIGHT EVEN INFLUENCE GENERATIONS TO COME. BLONDE ON BLONDE DID NOT DEFINE 20TH CENTURY POP CULTURE,IT JUST STARTED THEIR THE MOST IMPORTANT RECORDED DOCUMENT IN SOUND'.
