A fine combination of action, science fiction and horror, 'Blade' is one of the best comic book adaptations to date. While hardly deep or cerebral, it manages to capture much of the spirit of the original character and doesn't turn him into a children's cartoon. The film provides plenty of action and effects, fights and blood. The violence is successfully broken up with a variety of one-liners and other humour. Wesley Snipes makes a fine vampire hunter, looking great at all times, although the character of Blade really isn't explored to any depth. Stephen Dorff too makes a fine villain. Stylish and entertaining, 'Blade' is perhaps not great art but certainly great fun.Another one for your collection,thanks for reading

Take your brain out and enjoy! Its pure entertainment! Pure and Simple! All action romp with great fight sequences and lots of blood! Plus some of the vampires are very sexy. What more could you ask for??

Classic Vampire slayer film, plenty of action (and gore)with a bit of humor thrown in in places. Wesley Snipes at his best and looking great as usual!!!! Well worth buying, once you have seen the first and enjoyed that, there is another two to enjoy after...Blade 2 and Blade trinity.

great film with pleanty of fast moves and awesome weapons...wesley snipes is really good as blade....although it is an 18 even my girls loved it and they are 11 and 13, we have now got the whole set....would recommend to anyone who loves vampire films.

Excellent introduction to the world of Blade AKA Wesley Snipes. Amazing film with some nice special effects and a great storyline. If you were ever interested in myths and legends about vampires or other creatures of the neverworld then make this a must see.

People that tout "The Matrix" as a new milestone in action film making have clearly missed out on "Blade". The opening of the film in a nightclub is a bravura moment of horror meeting action like never before. What elevates the film into a class of its own, is that it goes on to top that opener with successively greater displays of action choreography melding with special effects.

"Blade" could have been yet another overblown blockbuster, but it differs in that its relentless nature builds excitement rather than smacking of desperate CGI-laced attempts to keep the audience interested.

Wesley Snipes is Blade, a superhero whose fight against vampires has been born out of a dark and sad past. He's up against Frost, a brash young vampire with ambitions that go against the wishes of more senior bloodsuckers, who have secretly prolonged the existence of their sharp-toothed kind for many years.

Snipes plays his superhero character with such aching coolness that you can't wait for the next dumb-ass vampire to get in his way. Such challenges are met with flurries of lethal kung fu and deadpan quips that are actually funny. These retorts reflect an underlying healthy sarcasm in the script, which is in turn beautifully exploited by Blade's mentor, Kris Kristofferson as Whistler.

The sardonic nature of the movie is further enhanced by the ability of the characters to poke fun at the ludicrous nature of the hyper-intense fights that propel Blade in his quest to rid the world of vampires. It's a journey that's enjoyably involving, despite the frenetic pace, and that's a rarity with any action blockbuster.

As Blade, the title character, observes just after the climactic moment of the film, "Some motherfucker's always trying to ice skate uphill." That pretty much sums up the film. It sounds sharp and polished. But do not think about it too long. How many places can you name where the ice is smooth enough to skate on and goes uphill? BLADE is polished, visually very appealing, and enjoyable as an action film. But do not stop to think about it too hard. BLADE is at once a good action film and a bad piece of fantasy.

This is a dark world in which vampires are something very different from what used to be in the old Universal horror films. The world is basically engaged in a secret three-sided war. There are humans, there is the old aristocracy of vampires, and there are the young rebellious vampires struggling to wrest control from the old guard. The older vampires are in a cold war with humans. Some humans know of their existence but try to cover it up in an uneasy truce. The young vampires know they can take control in a new order that will rule humans and older vampires. Tipping the balance in the wars is Blade (Wesley Snipes), half human, half vampire. Actually a vampire took his mother just hours before he would have been born. This was sufficient to change his DNA--I told you not to think about it too hard--so that he has all the best parts of humans and all the best parts of vampires. Actually, saying he has the best powers of both humans and vampires does not explain him. It is not clear if it is his human or his vampire heritage that allow him to get a silver stake in the base of his neck and seconds later again be a perfect fighting machine. He also seems to have the powers of an action hero.

Visually this is a very striking and polished film. While it starts with some overly familiar time lapse effects, it has some well- filmed fight sequences early on. I am not an expert on martial arts, but friends who know considerably more tell me that Snipes does his stuff very well. There was some suspicion that the fighting was speeded up and there is no doubt that special effects were added to the fight sequences. But the fighting would not have looked this good without Snipes knowing his stuff. Digital effects are integrated flawlessly with the live action. Stephen Dorff as Deacon Frost is an acceptable villain without generating a lot of excitement. Kris Kristofferson plays the modern equivalent of Van Helsing. He provides the brains, Blade is the muscle. As far as his acting he does not push any new buttons or pull any new levers. With the possible exception of Snipes, nobody does. I would say that it is nice to see Udo Kier still making horror films, but it would not be sincere. Kier has always had non-demanding roles and has always been just adequate. His presence in a film has always seemed to be a kind of inside joke.

Verdict- worth watching if you have nothing to do..

The 1st films are always the best! The last 2 have been cool but i think the 1st is the better of all 3.

seen all the blade films at the cinema as they came out, loved them that much wanted to own my own set so we could watch them again and again. wesley snipes is brilliant as a vampire slayer.he is half vampire himself but is known as a day walker as he does not have to go to ground as sun breaks. chriss kristopherson? [cant spell] is brilliant as his aide, quite gory in parts, but great story & effects, if you like horrors trust me you will love this. ps ladies mr snipes will have you drooling!

This is an excellent film that brings a new twist to the vampire legends set in modern day, it is technology and weponary upgraded to other vampire flicks. It is a brilliant film and I have bought it because I love the film and I want to complete the trilogy.

Gritty, gorry, edge of seat action. Wesley Snipes in a superhero like role. If you like blood mixed with demons and fast kick ass fight scenes then you will love this movie as much as i do!!

An excellent film, Wesley Snipes is perfect as Blade. Sci/fi and Action rolled into one. A far cry from the series on tv at the moment, lets hope the Blade Trilogy does't stop at just that.

A great vampire action film - this is so good I saw it in the cinema 6 times. From the opening dance scene with loud pumping music and great fight scenes it really gets you going and hooked. There are great camera angles that really make this film a must have for any dvd collection.

There is a secret war between a few in the know humans and the vampire race. The vampires want to be left alone but blade a hybrid half human half vampire known as the day walker wants revenge for what happened to his mother at the hands of a vampire. Blade was found as a child by whistler a vampire hunter and nearly killed until whistler realised what he was - a vampire who can withstand daylight. Together they take on the vampires big and small.

Wesley Snipes is brilliant in this film. I bought it because I watched it on video and thought it was great. A must for any Wesley Snipes fan to watch

it is a brilliant film full of action, a good thriller, would reccomend it to anyone definately. i would give this film definately 10 out of 10 without a doubt,

the reason i brought blade was that iv got the second film on dvd and had not got the first one, so i saw this and wanted it. i love blades films, i didnt at first untill my boyfriend got me watching the second film and got me hooked but because i hadnt seen the first and thired film, i saw the first one and it was at a right price so through i grab it while i can. so all i need now is the thired one and iv got the lot then i can watch them over again lol.

i wanted this as i have the other two in the trilage and wanted this. its a good item, and good copy.

What can i say about Blade its pure class. lots of vampires and plenty of fighting. the story line is good and i my eyes this could be classed as the best of all the three blade movies. Wesley Snipes is great form and Steven Dorff is very good as a baddie.
