Album Notes
Depeche Mode: Martin Gore (vocals, guitar, synthesizer, keyboards); David Gahan (vocals); Alan Wilder, Andrew Fletcher (synthesizer, keyboards, background vocals).Recorded at Westside, London, England and Hansa, Berlin, Germany.BLACK CELEBRATION, Depeche Mode's fifth album not counting compilations, is one of their best. Martin Gore's lyrics are less strident and more personal--even the politicized "New Dress" is couched in humanistic detail instead of slogans--and his mostly minor-key melodies have a certain dark majesty. The production and arrangements move further into the atmospheric, somewhat industrial realm first tentatively explored on the preceding SOME GREAT REWARD, with more impressive results. "Fly On the Windscreen," a song previewed in a much different arrangement on the singles compilation CATCHING UP WITH DEPECHE MODE, sounds more convincing in this form, and it's one of the band's best-ever efforts. As a whole, BLACK CELEBRATION is one of the better Goth-pop records of its time.

i decided to buy this item as it was a reminder of my teenage years and it is also in memory of my friend, who was a massive fan of the band and sadly passed away as the result of a tragic accident. this CD is, in my opinion, the best of the best of depeche mode, avril. R.I.P. PAUL

...this I'd say is my favourite album track from 'Black Celebration', the essentials imo are the singles, these aren't the same versions in all cases. Bought it coz I wanted to get more Mode, 'Ultra', 'Songs Of Faith & Devotion' and 'Violator' are the hot ones for me so far.

In my opinion best of the older albums.. hints at DM's later Darker journey it will eventually take. Fly on the Windscreen is a great track on top of Black Celebration itself. But nothing rubbish on Album. Couple tracks slightly dated but still a must for any DM fan!! BUY!
