Whilst technically there are only 8 Channels on these radios and squelch offsets, doesn't mean that these radios are 304 channel.
With a 5km range, I would have hoped for slightly better quality, even when using a Vox headset these radio's are just not loud enough! they suffer badly from interference and I would personally spend a little more next time on a set of Motorola PMR 466s.
That said, if your looking for a way to communicate around a builders yard or something for your kids to play with these are fantastic.

I first bought some of these walkie talkies last year and have since bought more. For a basic style and cost, the range is slightly superior (8Km Max, depending what model. Some are advertised as 6Km) to the family ones, at 5Km or less, and they cover about 1-2 miles in heavily wooded areas (enough for me!)
Not the flashiest of designs and not in the league of the big walkie talkies available at double the price, but good enough.

I bought these radios for communication between 3 cars in convoy as we travelled from UK to The Gambia in West Africa. They were invaluable to us and were certainly worth the purchase price but when used from car to car the range was little more than 100 metres. The four radios are supplied with 2 in-car chargers and 2 mains chargers. The in-car chargers were used constantly and performed well.
