euan mcgregor relives his life through the TALL STORIES he has always told. very unusual and keeps skipping back to him dying in hospital. PITY THE BRILLIANT SALISBURY HILL by PETER GABRIEL was in adverts, but not in film. difficult to watch.

  A must see film.
Review created: 10/06/08

I really bought this film out of curiosity. I had no idea of what the film was about but decided to buy because it was a Tim Burton film. His films, to me, are brilliant. To some i know they can seem strange. This film was no exception. It was totally wierd but thats what you expect. Its a touching tale of a boy who never belived his fathers high stories but in the end finding it was all true. It even bought a tear to my eye in places and the film had quite a strong love theme to it but not sickly or anything like that. I can't say anything more than to actually encourage you to watch it. There were no parts i did not understand or dislike but if you leave the room to make a cup of tea, make sure you pause as the storyline is fast. An excellent film, sentimental, touching, funny and mysterious.

A great cast made this movie as good as it is as the story takes some imagination. but theres enough to keep old and young entertained for a few hours.

Don't let this one get away

This may be a film you will either love or hate. For me I absolutely loved it.

Easily identifiable as a Tim Burton directed film, it's a strange escapist tale of fantastical stories with a strong, though not overplayed, comedy element woven upon the initially estranged relationship of a son living in the shadow of the larger than life character of his father.

The casting is excellent, with Ewan MacGregor and Albert Finney playing the young and older father respectively. Danny Devito, Helena Bonham Carter, Jessica Lange are other well known names with it.

This is a film that will never fade away, though it will never build up a cult following (given it isn't initially seen as a turkey), however it is a film you should see. To sum up, it a feel good film, with a touch of sadness, and whilst it may have a touch of syrupy sweetness this is easily counterbalanced by its bizarre and quirky humour.

A must see Tim Burton film
Review created: 27/03/08

Normally, no matter how good a film is, I can only watch it once- but after seeing this at the cinema I couldn't wait to see it again. There's so much to the story it keeps you hooked, and in fact it's actually the only film I've seen my mum stay awake for its entirety and watch!

The lovely Ewan McGregor plays Edward Bloom and this is a film about his adventures in life; portraying how we see things differently at different life stages. Edwards' son figures his dad's stories are just lies- or are they just a colourful version of the truth?

Brilliant film, highly recommended, especially to the daydreamers like me out there!

  Odd but Good
Review created: 26/01/08

A good film in general as are all Tim Burton, And he has still kept to his odd ways choosing a darker film than you'd expect. But it is excellent none-the-less!

  Films with Fish
Review created: 07/06/07

This is one strange film, but it also one of my favourites. If you like films where you can't see whats coming then this is for you... And there is also a big fish, in an even bigger pond! Enjoy!

Edward Bloom has always been a teller of tall-tales about his oversized life as a young man, when his wanderlust led him on an unlikely journey from a small-town in Alabama around the world and back again. His mythic exploits dart from the delightful to the delirious as he weaves epic tales about giants, blizzards, a witch and conjoined-twin lounge singers. With his larger-than-life stories, Bloom charms almost everyone he encounters except for his estranged son Will. When his mother, Sandra, tries to reunite them, Will must learn how to separate fact from fiction as he comes to terms with his father’s great feats and great failings...

This was a very good film which the children really enjoyed too. I brought it as I was going to buy the book and then saw it in DVD format. I really enjoyed the film and would watch it again as it was so well done.

This is a good film all round. If you are a Tim Burton fan, then you will not be dissapointed. It has all the weird & wonderful characters in a weird & wonderful world with the fantasy storyline that Burton is well known for.

It was bought as a Christmas gift for a Tim Burton fan.

If you like Tim Burton's work then this one is for you. Not as dark and spooky as his other films, it still has this incredible imaginery world that will transport you into the wonderful life of Edward Bloom who experiences larger than life adventures. My favorites movies are movies that make me feel something, that amaze me, make me dream, laugh and cry. This one is definetly in this category.

  Wonderful

Big Fish is a wonderful film full of enchantment and wonder, teaching us not to take life so seriously or even literally. It's a great family film but may not appeal to action junkies. One scene in particular blew me away, in which Edward comes across the town of Spectre - i'll say no more.

An underlying issue is the aversion the son has for the father for his lack of reality. He feels he barely knows his Edward as he has a taste for fantasy story telling... should we accept people for who they are?
