Album Notes God bless Elephant 6. The pop collective that includes Olivia Tremor Control, The Gerbils, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Apples In Stereo and Of Montreal is a scene unto itself, generating reams of wonderfully skewed pop that pays homage to the loopy, psychedelic side of the Beatles, Beach Boys, Zombies, etc. Beulah is part of Elephant 6's West Coast branch, and their second effort expands upon the sound of their debut, mixing the pure pop craftsmanship of Apples in Stereo with the screwy sonic tactics of Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral Milk Hotel. Strings, horns, harpsichord and other items from the pop/psych arsenal are employed to color the peppy, light-hearted, guitar-based tunes. Like their peers, Beulah sounds ready to break off a branch of the pop family tree and build itself a sturdy hut.
