The extended break between albums had given Southside Johnny more than enough time to plot his return.BETTER DAYS boasts an impressive cast of guests--teenage heartthrob Jon Bon Jovi, the ever-present Bruce Springsteen and Steven Van Zandt, and members of the E Street Band, including Gary Tallent and Max Weinberg. The production is a touch glossier than earlier releases, but there's no denying the wonderful Motown soul sounds of "All I Need Is You" and "It's Been a Long Time," while the title track is steeped in the blues. Reviews  Better Days 1 of 1 people found this review helpful. After a slightly dodgy period in the late 80's, Southside Johnny returned in 1991 with this tour de force. Produced by Steve Van Zandt, this album is the best ever from Southside- great songs and arrangements, with lots of brass and guitar. Despite many fine albums since, I feel that this has never been bettered - New Jersey rock/soul at its best. If you like Springsteen, maybe Bon Jovi even, then this is for you - and they both feature on this album too. Highly recommended from a SSJ fan for the past 30 years!
