Mst watch for any Jane Austin fan

This is a must see for any Jane Austin fan. It shows the story of Jane Austin herself and keeps very close to the story as told by the Jane Austin museum in Bath (another for Jane fans). It is also a good film on its own ofr those who dont read Austins books (how dare you!).

Fantastic film. James Mcavoy is brilliant and Anne Hathaways portrayal of Jane Austen is fantastic! You can't even tell she's american. Absolutely loved this film, it made me cry.

I loved this film - I bought it because I like James Mcevoy, he's a wonderful actor and this film is no exception. Anne Hathaway is good, but it still narks me that they chose an american actress for the part. Maybe an unknown british talent should have been cast? I do think that you have to be a fan of Jane Austen, period drama and romance to really like it!

this film was interesting enough but i felt a lot of the dialogue to be boring, without any real power or emotion to the performences. it was good enough to watch once but i wouldn't rush to watch it again.

Saw this at Cinema - was good. Really liked it and said as soon as it finished that I would buy it. If you have seen Pride and Prejudice you will notice the similarities as P&P was based on Jane Austen's own experiences but is still worth watching.

Beautiful Film, very insightful. Ann Hathaway is excellant in the title role as Austen, James McAvoy is on form as always. The scenery is breath taking. I would really recommend to anyone, especially those interested in Miss Jane Austen.

Modern day account of a classic Writer
Review created: 20/02/08

If you liked Atonement starring Keira Knightly and the gorgeous James McAvoy, you will love this film. It's another historical account set when Jane Austen was in her 20s and was inspired to write such works as Pride & Prejudice. It's the usual story of girl meets boy, they hate each other at first, fight for a while and fall in love - but what makes this film compelling to watch is down to the very witty and sarcastic dialogue between the lead characters Jane and Tom. Julie Walters is very funny, as always, in the scenes she is in. Anne Hathaway does a commendable English accent, as does James McAvoy considering he is Scottish. Am glad to see film studio didn't go for the usual lead actresses previously used in period films such as Kate Winslet, Gwyneth etc. Lots of special features worthy of a period piece. Best thing about it though has to be the very lovely James McAvoy who is proving to be an excellent Leading Man! The story can be a tad slow at times which I feel is the only down-side.
