The Beatles - With The Beatles (CD 1987)

This is a fantastic album, whether The Beatles are covering a song or playing one of their own, they are all great. I love 'Money' and and 'Little Child' the best, great for singing along to in the car! Can you belive it was just their second album? So much talent bursting to get heard.

All Beatles fans should this cd in their collection. I have the original viynil album stored away safely it is an american import and belonged to my late wife.

A great album from a great group.I was too young to purchase this album when it first came out but I've now made up for it.

I bought this album on vinyl back in 1964 ( £1.75 or £ 1/17/6 !) and it is still br far my favourite Beatles album, a set of classic covers and some of their own songs it has the raw energy of the early Beatles ex Munich and the Cavern Club before the marshmallow McCartney came to the fore. I guess the nearest stuff to this album is the Arctic Monkeys "Nightmare". Like A/M it must be played LOUD for good effect, it is not coffee table music. Good night driving music though. The album also clearly shows the Beatles excellent musicianship and influences for their later work. "Revolver" is basically this album reprised but this all time all their own work. Especially great tracks are "Little Child" "Please Mr Postman" "All I've Gotta Do" "Don't Bother Me" "Roll Over Beethoven" "Devil in Her Heart" "Money". There is also an excellent cover of "Money" by the later Peter Sellers (Dr Strangelove, Pink Panther). Don't forget this album was made live with 4 track!

With the Beatles showed the band develop their songwriting infact 50% of the songs were penned by the band. To be truthful there isn't a bad track on the lp and for me to revisit after a 20 year gap has shown me how well it stands up to time - The guest writers tracks are by the way superb and many were stalwarts of the Beatles live shows Berry's Roll over Beethoven and Bradford/Gordy's Money just brilliant, fast , and raw versions of the masterpieces - Harrisons Don't Bother Me was his debut track and the Lennon / McCartney I wanna be your Man is proof that sometimes a cover is stronger as the Stones version will always be the version.
Worth a proper listen and if like me its been years since you heard it how come you remember all the words?
