Beaches (DVD 2003)

Its said that a successful film is one which makes the audience care about the characters. By heck Beaches does it with room to spare.
I first saw this film when i was about 8 years old, 12 years ago, now there's a thought! With maturity and greater understanding i now appreciate Beaches more. As can be taken from the other reviews the film centers around two childhood friends who grow up together as penpals and when they need each other in adult life not even continents could keep them apart. The relationship between the two is so well developed and this is what makes the ending so unbearably sad and tear jerking. And what review would be complete without the fantastic song Wind Beneath my Wings getting a mention, perfectly placed within the film and by itself a good enough reason to buy the Beaches soundtrack.

Its a tale of a friendship that many should aspire to achieve and its message of being there for one another from good times and bad, is one that can appeal to everyone.

Thoroughly enjoyable and recommended to everyone.

Girls you know what it's like. You feel bloated, emotional & all men are gits. So sit down, ignore the phone, open the box of chocolates you were saving for christmas, crack a bottle of wine & watch Beaches. You won't be disappointed. Just make sure you got the tissues close by!

Well what can i say about this film !!!! As soon as it started showing at the cinema me and my friend went to see it ...then we went back another 9 yes 9 times to see it again !!!!
A real tear jerker...people were in the toilets after for the loo roll !!
Not that i find many films to make your eyes water but as soon as i bought it on video then finally on dvd yes the eyes started watering in the privacy of my own home!!
Now my neice loves it....makes me feel old the next generation have discovered it,ha ha.
A real girly/friendship film.

The movie is good, not so much for the narrative.....but the acting and singing of Bette Midler and the child actor that plays Bette's character as youngster. Its a weepy with a great soundtrack.

One of the most poignant films ever! Have seen it several times and it still makes me laugh and cry. A beautiful testament to friendship, with all the highs and lows.
Bette Midler is outstanding in her performance as C.C Bloom, Barbara Hershey is fantastic as Hillary Whitney. The story brings all emotions in to play. An all time favourite of mine.
Everything slots together beautifully, the storyline and the songs, especially The Wind Beneath My Wings.

i bought this as it is one of my favourite films ever and not been able to find it any where. it just makes me cry every time cant wait to get the tissues out!

I bought this copy of Beaches for my son to give to my sister for her birthday, she is collecting her 'classics' on DVD. Beaches is a wonderful film, it shows the journey of two women who met when they were little girls. Hilary is from a well to do family and CC is a child performer from the Bronx. During there friendship they have many arguements and funny tender moments but throughout they are always there for each other. I'm sure most people know the ending of Beaches but just in case I will not write about it. The music in the film is fantastically performed by Bette Midler and the song 'Wind beneath my wings' was a smash hit. If you have never seen it do so. Beautiful funny film.

Don't rent 'Beaches' expecting a complex plot or deep, challenging characters. It is a simple, heart-warming story about two young girls who meet in Atlantic City and go on to become life-long friends.

This movie is ideal to watch on a Sunday afternoon. Slouch on the couch, switch your brain off and simply enjoy

This is rather an old film, but it could easily have been made this year. It is heartwarming, funny and interesting. There is a real mix of emotions and plot developments. Bette is fiery and wild - as ever - and her counterpart has her moment and provides a powerful performence. The beginning is good, the young versions of CC and Hilary are brilliant, the ending is heartfelt, Bette's singing is wonderful as ever, the storyline is wonderful and I just adore it. Bette is funny throughout and CC Bloom is one of my favourite Midler characters so far. I thoroughly enjoyed Bette's musical performences, which ranged from Jazz ('I got my health') to Ballads ('Glory of love') and Theatrical masterpieces such as 'Otto Titsling' (funny) and 'Oh Industry' (powerful, great song). It is also the film that brought us 'Wind beneath my wings', which is one of the greatest inspirational ballads of any time.

I would definately recommend this to anyone with a heart and a sense of humour.

Love this film despite is a chick flick big time watched this film when i was young never owned it so thought would get love the bond between two friends throughout life and well not much did not like bout this.

Beaches is a great movie. Was at a verf good price sealed and in very good condition. Came in very good time. No problems at all. I bought this for my mother for her birthday :D

Great film! Had heard a lot about it and love the song 'wind beneath my wings'. Well worth watching ...would highly recommend.

Its well produced and acted with the ever adaptable actress Bette Midler. If you like a weepy, then this one is for you.

I have seen this film before and i thought it was rather good and do like a good cry so thats why i decieded to buy it on dvd plus i havent seen it in years and think bette midler is a great actress and singer.

This film is a really good weepy film. Perfect for a girly night in. It tells the story of 2 young girls growing up through all the difficulties that life throws at them. It keeps you watching all the way through, excellent ending, very sad.
