An essential addition to the series

I bought this to see what the darker side of the Galactica universe looked like, not a pretty sight with more gore, betrayal and self sacrifice than expected - a one point it looked like a scene from the "Hellraiser" series. If you enjoy the series you will need to buy this as i resumably clears uo a few issues in series 3, however this arc can easily be viewed outwith the normal series, Lee Adama gaining his first command at the expense of various others who progressively died (no names for the uninitiated).

A slightly predictable ending - you have to wonder how Jane Seymour would have played the admiral of the Pegasus had she not turned it down.

Nice to see the old centurions back though....and it only got good instead of excellant as I still haven't caught up with series 2 & 3, so no fault of thw writers, although the trailers highlight a few scenes which aren't on the disc, leaving you with an incomplete exerience.

  Bridging the gap

This is a very gritty adjunct to a finely crafted series. One of the joys of BSG is the fact that the characters are flawed, (as are we all, lest we forget). And the characters in Razor bring out some uncomfortable feelings and introduce perplexing moral dilemmas whilst you're watching it. This is refreshing as it flys in the face of all the nicey-nicey guffy dross that alleges to portray 'real-life' and currently pervades our screens. It's not quite B5 as the story arc is somewhat smaller; but it trips along nicely, with a fine measured pace and an eye for a cliff-hanger.

Razor - the Mark of cain

Having ploughed through the first 3 seasons with the kind of voracious hunger for a story I'd not experienced since, ooh, the Famous Five books when I was about 9 years old, I was left with a bit of a void - like a kid that's eaten their easter eggs too fast and is surrounded with disappointingly empty wrappers, I'd been a wee bit glutinous. And season 4 was a long way off.

Thank God then for 'Razor'. I'd not taken to Admiral Cain one bit when she showed up with that big fancy ship of hers and those feral crewmen. Yup, I was praying for her to take a bullet. The Pegasus crew represented everything the Galactica crew were not - they were the flipside, the what if.

This spin-off really fleshes out that story - we see the experiences that made Cain and her crew into what they were, and as ever with Galactica, expect a few gentle surprises...

  Battlestar Galactica - Razor

As a latecomer to BSG, I had the fun of watching all three seasons in one go, and just as I'd finished that, Razor came along. It fits into the existing seasons, rather than tacking onto the end, fleshing out some of the history of the Pegesus under Admiral Cain as well as telling us more about Apollo's time as Commander of that ship. We see the original Cylon attack on the shipyards, and Cain's ruthless leadership style gets more of an airing. You don't like her anmore than you did first time around, but now you'll understand why she is the way she is. There's also a tantalising hint about the return of Starbuck, when a character we meet only in this DVD gives a chilling warning. Basically, if you don't see this dvd, you'll still be able to follow the story when Season four kicks off, but if you don't have a copy of Razor, then you're missing out on a treat. Oh, it als delves a little into the fighter pilot past of the Original Commander Adama, in his days as Husker, and there are a few Viper versus Raider battles that show what the 70's show would have looked like with modern effects to play with.
The extra features are neat, but nothing amazing.

  Battlestar Galactica - Razor (DVD)

Great as part of the Battlestar Galactica seasons and works well as a stand alone movie, although it helps to of seen the main season of Battlestar to understand some of the sub plots. Very enjoyable and even some old school Ceylon's thrown in to this one!

  An excellent piece of film.
Review created: 03/05/09

Razor was originally a two-part episode at the start of season 4 of Battlestar Galactica and it is based approximately a year before the events of that season. It tells the story of the Battlestar Pegasus' involvement in the second Cylon war, and about a new officer who had just joined the crew, Kendra Shaw, and her transformation into a 'Razor', a fiercely loyal soldier.
I liked how (without going into too much detail) they included the old, 1970's cylons into the story, and how they tie it in to Starbuck's story in season 4, but other than that, it has no relevance to the rest of the BSG timeline, so some may view it as a little pointless. I however, think of it as a bit of fun, and a must own for any BSG fans.

Good quality DVD plays with no defects or tracking problems. As a Scifi fan of the Galactica saga, it is my mission to obtain all seasons and offshoots of the great story, and "Razor" enhances that story. SO SAY WE ALL!

  Battle Star Galactica, Razor
Review created: 03/05/08

A good filler between season 3 and 4. And a welcome addition to the series. The story is reasonably easy to follow, although there are clearly three plots going on in three different time lines, so you have to concentrate at times just to keep up with things. That said the plots are engaging and interesting. Razor is obviously designed to answer questions that left us hanging after season three.
What I found most fun was the brief story of a young commander Adama during the first cylon war. This story-line sees him battleing the original 'toasters' that some of us may recall from the original Battlestar Gallactica TV series. The cylons are computer generated but the effects are up to usual high standards and make for enjoyable viewing. A good fight sequence involves Adama and a first generation cylon in free fall having colided in mid air and ejected from their ships. Both are intent on each others destruction. I shall not spoil the result but you can imagine what happens to a half ton cylon when it hits the surface at a fare rate of knots.
Over all a good dvd and well worth the purchase. Some good bargains to have on e-bay if you look for them.

  Battlestar Galactica Razor
Review created: 20/04/08

Having watched the first 3 season of Battlestar Galactica I was left wanting more and since it was going to be sometime before season 4 was going to be aired.

When I found Razor was coming out I had to buy it.

Razor focuses on the events on Battlestar Pegasus following the Cylon attack and we get to understand more about the crew - who we had met in series 2.

Also we are made privy to Commander Adama's contribution in the 1st Cylon war some 40 years earlier.

There is a hint about the return of Starbuck, when a character who we only meet in this Razor story gives a chilling warning.

Razor is a great movie if you like the remake of Battlestar Galactica.

  Battlestar Galactica - Razor
Review created: 13/02/08

Once again this modern re-working of Battlestar Galactica does not fail to disappoint. Harsh, gritty, intelligent - everything we've come to appreciate about the TV series.

As a kind of interlude, the story focuses on the events on Battlestar Pegasus following the Cylon attack and we get to understand more about the crew - who we had met in series 2.

We are also made privy to Commander Adama's contribution in the 1st Cylon war some 40 years earlier. And also a few teasers for the final series are thrown in for good measure.

The strength of this piece is the way is chooses to face head on the moral issues facing soldiers and commanders when fighting a war. Does it matter who dies as long as the greater good is served? Should you do all you can to preserve life or is self-preservation the only justifiable cause of action? Thought-provoking seems too mean a phrase for the ideas it communicated.

This is a must see for any Battlestar fan, and also those who like their sci-fi real and not sanitised - like too much that offered on TV at the moment.

Razor - to fill the void of no current episodes
Review created: 01/02/08(updated 01/02/08)

Now my title to the review may sound like I didn't like it, but I really did. I had been eagerly awaiting season 4 of battlestar and was just skimming the net and found that Razor had been released.

I then immediately bought it and got ready to sit down and enjoy, I really liked the emphasis on the blade with the close-ups it was a nice touch, although the only thing that made me enjoy the film a little less is because it was focused on Admiral Cain's ship and I didn't really like her character that much, but that will be due to how her character was portrayed and that's the image they wanted for her.

I thought it was really interesting though as they showed a side we never got to see in the normal series, as of course there wasn't too much focus on the pegasus.

Overall though it was a really good watch, and I can't wait for season 4 to air in april :)

A great movie length parallel story to Battlestar Glactica that focuses on the Pegasus when Lee Adama takes command with Starbuck as CAG, his first mission as commander of Pegasus against some classic old rogue Cylons with lots of flashbacks to how the Pegasus survived under Admiral Kain to introduce the Pegasus crew.

If you liked remake of Battlestar Galactica you will like this.
