Album Notes Personnel: Commander Cody (vocals, piano); Bill Kirchen (vocals, guitar, trombone); John Tichy (vocals, guitar); Billy C. Farlow (vocals, harmonica, trumpet); Bruce Barlow (guitar, bass, background vocals); Andy Stein (fiddle, saxophone); Lance Dickerson (drums).Recorded live at Armadillo Headquarters, Austin, Texas in December 1973.This live import album was recorded one month after the venerated LIVE FROM DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS, at the same venue; Armadillo World Headquarters, Austin, TX. It's essentially a second chapter to the earlier recording, featuring the same classic lineup (including Billy C. Farlow and Bill Kirchen, amusingly misspelled here as Bill Kitchen), but an entirely different group of songs. Such was the varied song stew from which the group drew, that they were able to switch things up enough to produce two entirely different live albums from the same period. This album features more of the band's best-known tunes than DEEP IN THE HEART; the street rod anthem "Hot Rod Lincoln," the boogie-woogie piano feature "Beat Me Daddy (Eight to the Bar)." It also features a generous helping of '50s rock & roll covers, such as "Blue Suede Shoes," "Milk Cow Blues," and "Jailhouse Rock," showcasing the band's vaunted rockabilly side. Pick up DEEP IN THE HEART first, but move on to BAR ROOM CLASSICS for the rest of the story. | |||||||||||||
