Album Notes
Original score composed by BT.Includes a bonus DVD.Includes liner notes by Michael Dimattia.Although the acclaimed 2003 film MONSTER (for which Charlize Theron won the Best Actress Oscar) is full of murder, despair, and psychological tumult, famed electronica producer/composer BT (Brian Transeau) sagely went the opposite route with his score. Instead of matching the hard-hitting grittiness of the movie, he contrasts it with smooth, dream-like instrumental tracks whose gentle surfaces belie the gruesome tale they accompany. Though BT is known as an architect of seamless electronic soundscapes, he's also been a pop-hit remixer for Tori Amos and others, and that sensibility serves him well here. Amid all the ethereal musical textures, subtle melodic and rhythmic motives emerge that demand attention, crossing the line from ambient mood music to affirmative compositional statement.

Editorial Reviews
3 stars out of 5 - [BT] reaches beyond his trance-central comfort zone with this supremely restrained and yet emotionally dense score.
