Description
In 1976, John Carpenter paid homage to Howard Hawks' superlative western RIO BRAVO with his second full-length feature film, ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13. Now it's Carpenter's turn to experience some cinematic adulation, with this remake of the film from director Jean-François Richet. Set in Detroit, Richet's film focuses on police Sergeant Jake Roenick, whose failed career as an undercover cop has lead to a New Years Eve stint in charge of the dilapidated Precinct 13. As a snowstorm rattles the windows and doors of the rundown station, Roenick exchanges some festive banter with police psychologist Alex Sabian (Maria Bello); curvaceous secretary Iris Ferry (Drea de Matteo); and retiring veteran Jasper O'Shea (Brian Dennehy). But their merriment is interrupted when a diverted prison bus escapes the ravages of the storm, seeking a temporary haven for its peccant passengers in Precinct 13. Criminal mastermind Marion Bishop (Laurence Fisburne) is on board, along with a junkie, Beck (John Leguizamo), and two young felons, Smiley (Ja Rule) and Anna (Aisha Hinds). Hot on their tail comes police detective Marcus Duvall (Gabriel Byrne), a crooked cop who wants Bishop dead before he testifies against Duvall in court. Bringing a formidable army of fellow corrupt officers with him, Duvall puts the police station under siege in order to snag his man before it's too late. But he doesn't bank on the impressive wiles of Roenick and his rag-tag mixture of cops and criminals, who unite in an attempt to defend themselves from an execrable ending at the hands of Duvall and his men. A highly entertaining action romp ensues, with director Richet delivering a fast-paced thriller laced with violence and surprising plot twists, ensuring viewers are kept on their toes right up until the film's blood-soaked finale.

Actually not bad for a remake

I hate remakes, usually. Well the obvious ones anyway, and as a big John Carpenter I was determined to hate it, but I didn't.
Ok, its not a patch on the original, and in fact it's not even a 'good' film, but it's not bad. The quality of actors is probably what pulls it through. That and the fact I have a major crush on Drea de Matteo.
I think this statement sums it up best, I didn't think I'd watch it all the way through in one sitting, but I did!

  Great Film

I really liked this film. It was one of the best films i've watched in a while. The action was good, characters were good. Fighting scenes were great, keeping you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Could be watched by a female as not real gorey. Great twist at end. Loved it!

  Assault On Precinct 13

Ethan Hawke takes the lead as Sergeant Jake Roenick, a burnt-out cop babysitting a secluded and near-deserted Detroit police station on its last night of service. With notorious gangster Marion Bishop (Laurence Fishburne) in its holding cell, Jake experiences a world of trouble as the station is then attacked by an army of dirty cops desperate to kill Bishop before he can blow the lid on their years of wrongdoing. To cover their tracks, says ringleader Gabriel Byrne, they're going to have to kill everybody inside. Every cop in the precinct and every criminal too. To survive, they're going to have to put aside their differences and work together, which basically means everyone, even the crack addict (John Leguizamo), gets a gun. But not if Jake can help it, breaking out the heavy artillery and arming every able-bodied person in the place with the means to blow the bad guys away. Outnumbered with inferior firepower, it's a desperate struggle for survival that costs both sides a lot of blood.
Tense, involving and incredibly exciting, Assault on Precinct 13 is easily one of the best action thrillers you'll see this year. An awesome update of a classic original.

I must admit, this is a very good film. It was exactly as I expected to be like. A must get film! Laurence Fishburne played a very good role and I think that his character suited the film very well.

  Assault on Precinct 13

A good film, its about a police station about to close down. A cop who is going through some problems and a bent cop who is trying to kill a prisoner because he knows that he is bent. The bad cop tries to kill all the people in the station together with the prisoners, it has a little twist but is good to watch and has a bit of action in it easy watching film.
