Multi-skilled Chinese thief Lau Xing (Jackie Chan) has stolen a valuable jade Buddha. In order to evade detection from the authorities he adopts the name Passepartout and enters the service of Phileas Fogg (Steve Coogan), an English gentleman obsessed by time who likes to dabble as an inventor.

Upon a wager with his fellow members of a London gentleman’s club that he can traverse the globe in 80 days or less, Fogg and trusty Passepartout (often using his extraordinary martial arts skills to get them out of trouble) set out on an extraordinary journey around the world using whatever weird and wonderful mode of transport available. However, the London police have mistakenly identified Fogg as the perpetrator of a bank robbery and a dogged detective is in close pursuit...

An eccentric London inventor, Phileas Fogg (Steve Coogan), has come up with the secrets to flight, electricity, and even in-line skates, but the establishment has dismissed him as a crackpot.

Desperate to be taken seriously, Fogg makes an outlandish bet with Lord Kelvin (Jim Broadbent), the head of the Royal Academy of Science: to circumnavigate the globe in no more than 80 days!
With his valet Passepartout (Jackie Chan) and the thrill-seeking French artist (Cecile De France) at his side, Fogg is headed on a frantic, heart-pounding round the world race that takes our heroes to the world's most exotic places by land, sea and air.

My kids loved this one, a great family movie.

What can I say that has not been said before? I have both the David Niven film and the Brosnam film, both excellent viewing. However when I saw this new film advertised I was prepared to criticize it as jumping on the band wagon, but no, it’s really good, differing from the other two films enough to be entertaining, plus, if you are a Jacky Chan Fan then this is a good one for you.
One to watch to watch.

i decided to buy this DVD after my daughter saw a bit if it on TV. It's a fantastic film and excellent family viewing. my daughter enjoyed it very much.
Both funny and exciting the lead characters are brilliantly played by Steve Coogan (alias Phileas Fog) and Jackie Chan (alias Passpartout). On a mission to circumnavigate the world in 80 days to prove to the head of the Royal Acadamy of Science (Jim Broadbent) that it can be done they set off on a race around the world by land air and see.

I am not a huge fan of this film. I found it too silly but its more of a childs film. It has some average acting, silly script, some good scenery. The film wasn't boring but a lot of silly fun. Good for children.

Plot:

Set in 1872, the story focuses on Passepartout, a Chinese thief who steals a valuable jade Buddha and then seeks refuge in the traveling companionship of an eccentric London inventor and adventurer, Phileas Fogg, who has taken on a bet with members of his gentlemen's club that he can make it around the world in a mere 80 days, using a variety of means of transportation, like boats, trains, balloons, elephants, etc. Along the way, Passepartout uses his amazing martial arts abilities to defend Fogg from the many dangers they face.. One major threat to their adventure is a detective that's following them. Why? Just as Fogg and Passeportout left London, a major bank was robbed, with Fogg suspected of using the "around the world" trip as an excuse to escape.. Their path from London and back includes stops in Paris, Turkey, India, China and USA...

Steve Coogan leads an all-star cast through this spirited screen version of Jules Verne's classic Victorian adventure. The title says it all really, as crackpot inventor and globetrotting adventurer Phileas Fogg (Coogan) falls foul of various larger-than-life foreign types. With Jackie Chan in support as faithful manservant Passepartout, there's a lot more martial arts action and general death defiance than you might have expected. Elsewhere, stars to keep 'em peeled for include Arnold Schwarzenegger as a crazy prince, Luke and Owen Wilson as the Brothers' Wright, Jim Broadbent as a dreadful cad and, we kid you not, Richard Branson as "Balloon Man".

On the whole an enjoyable movie. Not as good as the original, but re-makes never are. Alan Partridge is evident Steve Coogan tries to over act his way through the movie. Jackie Chan is as you would expect, funny-ish karate expert. If you have a couple of hours free and the movie is cheap enough, watch it.
