Hmm, phew! Simple, infectious, brilliant

Yes, it is simple, but the best things generally are. Just look back through musical history and you will find the path littered with huge names, names that have stood the test of time, all of whom were accused of producing simple, talentless music.
But, please don't mistake simple for easy. Simple, is surprisingly difficult to pull off. I could list songs that sounded so simple at the time that so many others said, "I could've done that..." But, the truth is, they didn't. The Artic Monkeys have done it; thay make simple music that is good. Very good.
I'm not saying this will stand the test of time, but it has a chance.
If anything, this album is more consistent than their first. Their first had a few great songs that demonstrated promise, but it had its fair share of duffers; this one, however, is strong throughout, with only one song that disappointed me.
I am a pessimist, and English to boot, and as such crave and expect disappointment. I was wrong. I like this; I like this a lot. I like it because it is so very, very dynamic and its sound is so generous with the usual dose of humour and pop culture sprinkled into the lyrics.
Most of all, though, I like it because too often huge success damages artists; they start to take themselves too seriously. No one can accuse the Artic Monkeys of taking themselves too seriously; the fun they had producing this album shines through. Songs like Brainstorm, D is For Dangerous , Balaclava, Flurescent Adolescent, If you were there, Beware and 505 are my personal favourites. Enjoy.
