Must have for chill out, laid back music
Review created: 27/03/08

This is a very mellow, easy listening CD. A really truly relaxing and original sound. I originally had this when it was first released, but as it was one of the CD's that I always took with me when ever i was off on my holidays, played as back ground music when entertaining or on long journeys etc, etc, it got lost in transit somewhere? So, I'm thrilled to have it again, as really missed it from my music collection. Now with MP3 players I can hear it again and again and hopefully won't ever lose the CD itself.

  Aqualung by Aqualung

The eponymous debut album by Southamptons Aqualung (Matt Hales) Drawing on his classical piano training this ambitious first album has flashes of brilliance. Several tracks from the album having been used extensively in TV and advertising.
The very recogniseable "Strange and Beautiful" echoes with a haunting piano background whilst "If I Fall" is reminiscent of Thom Yorke and Radiohead.
There is a real ecclectic mix of styles on the 11 tracks of this album from Mozart to Massive Attack. If you like the trip hop of bands like Tricky and the ambient tones of Portishead then this album is highly recommended.

Great album - not for rockers

This is a good album, let down by a couple of tracks that meander around a little.
Often bought to acquire the music to the VW Beetle advert, it actually has some more tracks of near equal quality. But this is no album for those who want a bit of "oomph". The tracks have a hazy quality and tackle a number of topics lyrically , and its all intelligent songwriting. The only downside is it is a little one paced , and a leisurely pace, so it might have bebefitted from a couple of changes in gear.
All in all though , if you like it, you'll probably like it a lot.
