Apollo 13 - The only mission is to survive

Apollo 13 is a moving, heart-pumping film about the true story behind the Apollo 13 missions. It is based on the book by Jim Lovell, a pilot from the origional mission. Apollo 13 is the 5th mission to the moon, and for NASA at the time it is a rather routine mission by now. However, disaster strikes and the only objective of the mission now is to survive.
Tom Hanks, who plays the lead role of Jim Lovell, gives an outstanding heartfelt performance, truly giving us a sense of the fear and dissapointment of the mission failure, and how the events affect the pilots throughout the course of the mission. There are also outstanding performances from Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinse and Ed Harris, who all do justice to the real people involved and provide a true insight into the events and emotions throughout the mission.
Apollo 13 is not just a film about space (although its scientific accuracy and truly awe inspiring graphics make the film an unbelievable success), but it is rather an account of how the events of the mission effected each party involved, from the flight director to the pilots to their families back home.
Although its emotional content makes the film, it has fast paced heart-racing sscenes that make you sit on the edge of your seat. Watch as the pilots battle to keep the oxygen supply high enough to stay concious, feel the immense cold as their power supply shuts down and hold your breath as they attempt to unattach the LEM and then re-attach it again, their only hope of mission success.
This truly is a film that provides a real insight into the dangers behind space flight, and the amazing men who make it all possible.
