There's a slightly more raw feel about this album compared with some of the other Floyd albums which makes it stand out. It is a clever concept album full of vivid imagery and a few hints of humour. The lyrics are supported by trademark Pink Floyd synthesizer arrangements and strong, memorable melodies.
A real classic album which has stood the test of time and changing fashions.
I bought the Cd because my original is on vinyl and I don't get the turntable spinning so often these days!

  Like Cats And Dogs!!!
Review created: 09/06/08

This is probably the most underrated Pink Floyd album ever released.
Following on from "Dark Side Of The Moon" and "Wish You were Here" was never going to be easy and that fact coupled with the internal bickering that were starting to surface made for a less than enthusiastic response from press and public alike.

However, take a longer listen and a gem is unearthed.
Bookending the album is Rogers` song of affection for his wife, containing thoughtful and evocative lyrics.
It`s the stuff in between, however that grabs you; David Gilmour described this album as "not being too broad" In that case he has a point, "Dogs, "Sheep and "pigs could be various stages of one long composition that repeats and augments themes throuought the album.
Roger reaches his zenith lyrically in this album and Gilmours guitar work is sublime.
Listen to this album as a suite and not individual tracks and I`m sure you will hear it in a new light.

This album was released after Wish you were here in 1977,so it was always going to be looked upon as the floyds next masterpiece but the internal conflicts developing within the band and the expectations of fans me included were a bit cool, but over the years it has developed a character of its own.Starting with the front cover the album of Battersea power station and the lyrics by Roger waters combined with the effects and music by the rest of the band which were just as importent making what has become a pretty good link between Wish you were here and The wall which i have already on CD.

A classic album by Pink Floyd
Review created: 05/12/07

I really enjoyed this album when it was released on LP in the 70's and it is just a classic album that you never tire of(a bit like Led Zeppilin 2).
I have always wanted a copy for the car but I have been reluctant to pay the high price for the CD version.
It seems today that most back catalogue music is substantially more expensive than new releases nowadays and it always seems to be a safe bet to buy used CD's because they either play or not so when they are listed on Ebay you can take it for granted that the reproduction will always be first class unless otherwise stated.
When buying vinyl albums evrybody has a different idea of what is acceptable as surface noise or scratches and since neither of these is a problem that CD's suffer from you can buy in complete confidence whilst saving money in the process.

I came very late to Pink Floyd, but thank goodness I listened to Dark Side of the Moon earlier this year and wanted to hear more.
Animals, made in 1977, has only 5 tracks and the 1st and 5th are really two halfs of the same song use as the bread for the real meat inside. Nevertheless they are good and relevant and start and finish the other tracks perfectly.
Track 2 'Dogs'is sublime with wonderfully acidic lyrics by Waters. Gilmour's guitar solo which bursts in after the first stanza of lyrics has finished is breathtakingly beautiful and is repeated later on in the song thankfully.
The song goes all quiet then and symphonic, with synthesised dog barking sounds cleverly marking its gradual development. A work of art.
Track 3 'Pigs'slags off various people, one of which mary Whitehouse, is named.
Track 4 'Sheep'is the least memorable to me, but still excellent.
It is a concept album, which purports that people can be split into one of the above 3 catagories, with all the traits that go with it.
So complex and revealing is this album, that it can be played over and over and again and still stay rewarding and fresh. It could have been made yesterday and yet is nearly 30 years old. Buy it and listen to it time and time again. I have 3 Pink Floyd albums now including Wish You Were Here. They are all masterpieces.

  Pink floyd's Animals

This album couldn't be more different to the floyd's previous two outings (1973's dark side of the moon and 1975's wish you were here) in sound and overall atmosphere.
Only the opening and closing tracks 'Pigs on the wing 1 & 2' (same song, just different lyrics) clock in under 11 minutes. It's minimal and stark compared to just about anything they've done before and since. It really is a must for anyone who wants to delve into the Floyd world, but not the best starting point, that still belongs to the other two albums I've already mentioned and also 'The Wall'.
