The Amityville Horror (DVD)

Very scary. The bathroom scene scared the heebie geebies outta me. Amityville Horror does not bore like many horror films as its packed with action all the way through. It is ten times better than its original because of its technological special effects. I went to the cinema to watch Amityville Horror and around 90% of the time my girlfriend was clinging onto me like crazy, so could work out as a way of getting you and your partner closer if the date isn't the greatest.

ive rated the film as excellent as i like films based on true events. i found the film really great to watch and it was better than i exspected. would recomend to any future buyers

Story: This frightening remake of the 1979 horror classic from producer Michael Bay (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) delves deeper into the supposedly true story of supernatural events that occurred in a Long Island, New York home in the '70s. When George and Kathy Lutz (Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George) come across a beautiful river-front colonial home being sold for a steal, they suspect a catch. Once informed that the home was the site of a grisly mass murder, they decide to buy the house anyway and eagerly move in, bringing with them Kathy's three children from a previous marriage. While no one can deny that the house is rife with spooky sounds, the family members try to put their fears at bay. But over time, strange occurrences start happening, becoming more and more frequent, and these events start to have a transformative effect on several family members. Kathy's daughter starts to act bizarrely, ending up in a variety of life-threatening situations, led by her new, not-so-imaginary friend Jody (one of the children slaughtered in the house years before by her older brother). Likewise, something strange seems to be happening to George. His usually sweet demeanour is replaced with a hostile one, and he starts cruelly taking out his aggression on Kathy's children. Kathy's original assumption that a house cannot be evil is challenged as she watches her husband transform into the sort of man that just might be capable of murdering his family. Faster-paced than the original, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR keeps viewers on the edge of their seats with quick editing, suspenseful music, and moderately graphic violence. The two leads give quality performances, and seem to inhabit the decade in which the story is set despite the film's slick, contemporary production.

Great Horrormovie, definately recommendable. George get haunted & possessed and he keeps getting subliminal messages to catch them & kill them, at the end he almost does, gets knocked out & when he's at a safe distance from the house they used to live in he comes to his senses.

The story why house got possessed and all that could have been a bit more & longer explained and have more of a role in movie, and only the previous occupants are haunting them, why not the guy who murdered all those indians in the past?

You have to set your mind at '' 0 '' when your watching this movie, some things just don't add up.

BUT MOVIE IS AWESOME!

Definately see this 1.

Brought the new vision of this film as i enjoyed the first vision of the film. After reading the documentory of the real story, and hearing that the new vision was more realistic i decided to buy it.
I throught that this vision was not so far dramatized than the first, but was more true in effect of what i belived could happen if you believe in the afterlife.
saying this, i felt that the actors were not as good, in playing the parts as the first vision, but overall very good.

I haven't seen the original but I've been told it's better than the new one. The effects with the ghosts and things was really good but becuase I've read about the murders before I even saw the film made me a little disappointed. Although it was just all a big lie anyway, the Lutz's even admided it a few years after the original. So I think this film is more just a remake then a film based on a true story.

HAD SEEN THE ORGINAL FILM YEARS AGO AND WANTED TO SEE THIS ONE, AND I WASNT DISAPPOINTED, KEEPS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT ALL THE WAY THROUGH.

Unfortunately, i am unable to comment on this movie as i never received it!

The eBay seller insisted he sent it but had no proof.
He ignored me so i disputed through PayPal, he ignored them to and they had to refund my money.

Since then, i have not had a chance to shop for it again.

bought for my teenage daughter - this is the first remake i have ever watched that actually surpassed the original! if you liked the original then you will love this!!! trully horrifying film whilst also having some form of plot plus we all know its based on true events AND some super jumpy bits to make the girls squeal (and some boys!) go for it i doubt you'll regret it :)

Based on the book by Jay Anston, this film is a remake of a 1979 film. Based on a true story, it's not often that a remake is better than the original version, this one is a much better than film than it's predecessor though.
A very convincing cast staring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George. The film is basically a ghost/haunted house story, if you like great classics like The Shining you'll love this one. The story is of a family who move into a bargain buy, a house with an unpleasant history of murder and torture. It doesn't take long for unpleasant things to start happening to George and Kathy Lutz played by Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George. Poor George soon starts to undergo a personality change/possession which has very bad consequences for the rest of the family including the dog! I won't tell you any more as it would spoil the film for you, there are plenty of shocks in store though. Some of the extras are actually also very interesting and worth watching. Which is sadly not the case with most DVD's. Well worth adding to your collection.

ryan reynolds played the role as the father/husband brilliantly, fitting into the role easily, adding a impressionable role in the film, which adds to the depth and message of the film

CGI and the make-up and design of the victims are perfect
this film is a must see!

I enjoyed the Amityville horror dvd and still jumped when watching it, few scenes that is.My stomach churned a few times.

I was originally looking for a copy of the original version of this film, then I saw this version for sale, watched a couple of clips on you tube and knew I wanted to see it.
It's not often in my opinion that this can be said, but its better than the original, probably because of the special effects, etc...
Something about the film - just the house, actually - has always fascinated and scared me and watching this just re-ignited that for me.
A great, and very scary film, and I'm not easily scared!

Very scary! If you like Ryan Reynolds there are some nice topless moments with him! Based on the original film and the sinister goings on at the infamous house afer a family was killed there!

It was a DVD I did not own, and wanted. I thought a good place to purchase it was ebayer, the seller didn't give a very good description, especially about it being the newer version, and when I received it, which was very quickly, it wasn't exactly as I expected it to be, as the film was an ex rental of which wasn't in the description.

Well never again will I watch this film!!! Confused?? Well I'll tell you, I Really really really don't like scary films but of course I was conned into watching this horrid, scary extremely petrifying film. I should have got up and walked out of the room but nooooo.... Silly me.....
All joking over, this film is extremely well made and one of if not the scariest films I have ever watched!! It will give you nightmares,

Now lets get things straight, I bought this DVD because I have the biggest crush on Ryan Reynolds. I am making it my mission to buy all of his DVDs and this was just one that was on my list.
But I have to say, it was actually really good. Now I'm not one to be scared by horrors but this one really freaked me out. It might have been cos Ryan Reynolds was the one who was taken over by evil, or it might just have been because it was a particularly disturbing horror but the jist of things is that I was impressed.
Melissa George's acting skills are limited (in my eyes she'll always be Angel from Home & Away) but Ryan Reynolds was so convincing. I would recommend this DVD to anyone.
As for when I might work up the courage to watch this DVD again? Lets just say, it won't be before the light nights come in!

i loved the original and fancied seeing the remake,not as good as original but ok film,usually keep away from remakes as its always a hard thing to live up to the original,would,nt buy it perhaps but ok for a saturday night scare with the girls
