I see the bad moon rising

I must watch too many ‘horror’ films, because this film review is the classic ‘An American Werewolf in London’, 1981. It stars David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as a couple of travellers from the USA; they end up on some dodgy northern Moors in England and are attacked by a wolf. One of them is killed and the other wakes up in hospital, being attended to by a young Jenny Agutter. There is a lot of dark humour in the film and it its scenes can be incredibly gruesome. One of my favourite scenes is where there are a load of walking corpses, chatting to the new werewolf in the cinema, there is a young couple who are really too nice, with only half a face left between them! Another incredible scene is where David is changing into a werewolf to the song ‘Bad Moon rising’ by Credence Clearwater Revival. Fantastic. I can’t recommend it enough.

An old classic worth revisiting or definitely worth a first time look to see the first on-screen werewolf transformation....
Also look out for a very young Rik Mayall in the initial pub scenes....
Another plus is the soundtrack-all the songs have "moon" in the title....

this is the best werewolf movie by far to date. this film has it all when it comes to horror. there are scenes where you feel happy to be on the viewing end from the very beggining because it feels almost real. this film would be reccommended to all who love horror movies.

just for the 'yeah its part of my dvd collection' thing

lets be honest, teen wolf was a better transformation scene. although, hat off , it had a few years on aawwil. i enjoyed it for the complete campness of the whole experience. the werewolf attacks had a michael barrymore prey on the audience feel with its side leap grrrr!! (not too much camera focus(lets remember the entire budget was blown on the transformation scenes(which you are shown in the dvd menu before you watch the movie(is this enough sub-categorisation????))))

I purchased the DVD as i had been threatening for years to watch it due to the cult following and also because my boss in work told me he had a thing for the leading lady( and she presented herself nude in it, more to the point) but considering the age of the film i couldnt quite relinquish the fact that she was quite possibly my grandmother!

in all, quite an enjoyable show, but only for the' so this was the special effect extravaganza of the era' .

to sum up: watch the main title menu for the transformation scene highlights, and after possibly 10 beer and the wife has gone to bed watch the film and chat to your mates about how dated the transformation scene is on your favourite forum at the same time.

Humourous yet slightly gory cult classic

An all time favourite of mine, this film depicts a young American backpacker and his friend on a trip to the UK. Starting off in the Yorkshire Moors, the pair head straight into trouble.....beware of the gore if you are in any way squeamish!
I won't spoil the storyline, but the clever film making creates some humorous scenes, whilst also creating the 'edge of your seat' moments when required.

An all time classic in my opinion, and well worth a viewing for a few quid!

An American Werewolf in London (DVD 2002)
Review created: 17/04/08

An American Werewolf in London is a great film, I saw it many years ago when it first came out. It's the kind of film that you dont forget easily. A couple of young American lads are hiking on the Moors in England when they get lost. They are attacted by what appears to be a wolf, one of them is killed. When the other lad wakes up he is in hospital in London. He keeps having "episodes" when he is visited by his rapidly decomposing hiking buddy! who warns him to kill himself because he is becoming a werewolf. There are some quite comical moments in this film despite being an 18. The special effects are brillant.

Classic horror/black comedy. Just as good as the last time I saw it.
Pretty poor extras on the second DVD outtakes with no sound!? Save some money and just buy the single disc version
But a classic film despite this!

If I had to choose my all time favourite film this would be it. Horror, comedy, great acting and good soundtrack. I've seen it so many times I almost know it word for word but it's still a great pleasure to watch. Fantastic effects without a whiff of computer generated graphics. A classic and a must see for any film fan.

Review created: 12/06/07

This is an excellent film. Although it's getting on in years, the music remains fantastic as does the humour within the film. It covers all interests. If you like horror, you have the werewolf for which the special effects are amazing, and as I said the comedy and the music are a huge part of the make up of this movie. I bought this film years ago on video but wanted to update it to dvd which is why I bought it again. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

  An absolute classic!
Review created: 01/05/07

Although this film is now 26 years old, it's still one of the greatest
horror films, with some incredible effects. It's funny, sexy and right up there with John Carpenter's 'The Fog' for atmosphere and jumps.

The plot centres on two American backpackers, David (David Naughton) and
Jack (Griffin Dunne), who find themselves alone in the dark on the Yorkshire moors, and being pursued by a unearthly howl.

When David then wakes up in a London hospital, he has little recollection of
the events on the moor, and struggles to seperate his nightmares from his new frightening reality. His only comfort, the sexy British nurse (Jenny Agutter)
who takes pity on him, and takes him back to her flat!

The only disappointment... they never released a soundtrack album!
