Album Notes
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Green Day: Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar); Mike Dirnt (vocals, bass instrument); Tre Cool (drums).Recording information: Ocean Way Recording, Hollywood, California.Rock opera and punk are usually two mutually exclusive musical styles. Then again, Green Day has never followed any rock rulebook, so it's not entirely surprising that the trio crafted a punk-rock opera that takes the Bush administration and its policies to task. It doesn't get any more pointed than a couplet from the frenetic title cut that states, "I'm not a part of a redneck agenda/Now everybody do the propaganda"Under the guidance of any other group of agitated punks, the results of such an undertaking could easily become didactic. But with creative spearhead Billie Joe Armstrong at the helm, AMERICAN IDIOT is melodically driven, with the kind of intellectual bent that allows for a pair of mini-operas, "Jesus of Suburbia" and "Homecoming." Trimmed with a light sprinkling of piano and a big guitar sound occasionally reminiscent of Mott the Hoople, the former skewers the hypocrisy that can pervade small-town life. The latter is equally effective, as clever time changes and sonic flourishes (glockenspiel, doo-wop harmonies, honking saxophone) serve as an intriguing counterpoint to the band's hook-laced riffs.

Editorial Reviews
3 1/2 stars out of 5 - On AMERICAN IDIOT, the thirteen tracks segue together, expanding into piano balladry and acoustic country shuffle....Green Day have found a way to hit their thirties without either betraying their original spirit or falling on their faces.Mojo (p.106) - 4 stars out of 5 - [I]n AMERICAN IDIOT, they've recorded what could be their masterpiece, a 13-song, hour-long set that's both ambitious and expertly original.Uncut (p.119) - 3 stars out of 5 - The Berkeley trio's upbeat poppy punk - equally indebted to The Kinks as The Ramones - shows no signs of fatigue, but has now been put to blatantly political use.

I was pleasently suprised when i brought it because of a friends recomendation. I like most of the songs on it and hey dont get old.
I started listenin to the first few tracks: 'American Idiot' which i had already heard and is a great single. Then came 'Jesus Of Surburbia' an incredible 9 minute song made up of 5 differant parts, every song on this album is great in differant ways and i doubt i'll ever get bored of them, especially what is surly to be the next single 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams'.
One of the albums of that year and well worth getting!

Ever since they recorded dookie this band have shot up to the pinnical of fame and fortune and with over 16 years of trying they finally hit the peak of it with this album, dookie and international super hits came close but this album was what the masses had been waiting for. This mix of punk rock and emo can be related to by both the hard rocks with a softer side and the emo pop loving fans, with the likes of American Idiot and When september ends, you can pick out any track on this album and exspect it to be a number 1 when the album was first released, such is the quality of this album, I personally prefer International super hits thesedays, but only because I know pretty much every word to all the songs on this album after the first 2 weeks of owning, as I listened to it that much. You must own this album, who ever you are as it appeals to so many genres of music fans.

Green day came into fame as a punk band with no limits. Their new album 'American Idiot' Tells a tale of a person called Saint Jimmy/Jesus Of Subreria. Though a great album, Is not as Good as Dookie. It has some swearing in as well. They have gone of their ' Punk Rock' To appeal more to the public and their only punky songs on this album are 'American Idiot' and 'She's a rebel'. Overall though a great buy.

American Idiot is deffinately one of Green Day's best albums but not the best. I believe Nimrod is their best album although American Idiot comes close second. Jesus Of Suburbia is probably the best song on this album.

If you like these then its well worth adding to your collection!!

How cool are these guys?

Ive followed green day since before they were famous and believe me when I say this album is great I really mean it!!!

American Idiot, Holiday, Boulavard of brokern dreams, these are all songs we know. A bit more of a subtle approach with the chart extreme WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER COMES.
This album has it all from the punky past of the band to the upbeat tunes of there newer found selves.

Buy this if you love punk and rock merged into one and if your a fan of Green day.

Dont buy this if you dont like swearing, dont have a sence of humour or cant understand what the fuss is all about!!!! :)

Verdict: great album, great lyrics, well worth the money.
