I was in America and staying with my best friend. Her next door neighbours owns the actual yellow car which is in this film. They also have the autographs of the actors on the dash of the car. I sat in the car and when I got home wanted the Film. Therefore where do you look but on Ebay and there was the DVD with the actual car in. So I purchased in. This is a true story and I told the person who I purchased the DVD from because I thought it quite a nice thing to do. He said it was one of his best sales not the money but the story behind the purchase.

  Cars and Rock N Roll
Review created: 29/07/08

I bought this as I love the music in it, I played the LP and it just brought back memories for me. The film starts outside Mels Diner and Steve says to Curt, "You can't stay 17 forever." No but the film helps you relive those halicon days. I'm sure that everyone remembers John's yellow Hot Rod or the black car that he races, but check out the Pharoahs car, with that lowered roof. Yes the story is about four guys and for two of them it's their last night in a small town, but all through the film there is superb rock and roll and doo wop and of course the brilliant Wolfman Jack is the dj. So much music and so many cars, wow.

  When we were young
Review created: 06/04/07

I first saw American Graffiti when I was 15. 1983. It was ten years after the film had been made...and that's the point.
Whatever age you are..you will love this film... because it takes you back to your teenage years.
Even if you weren't a teenager in 1950's america.
We all make decisions, when we are young, about collage or work, about love or...well..wanting it.
American Graffiti plays out your hopes and dreams and insecurities..and gives you the chance to relive your teenage years.
The drift from early evening to the later hours is so well done..and the music is gorgeous.
We all know the characters..we grew up with them..in our own lives..
But, the best thing about American Graffiti..is the humour and meloncholy.
From the moment 'toad' crashes his mo-ped into to the wall, because he doesn't know how to stop it..we've all been there..to the moment those immortal lines are spoken by..Curt..to steve, his best friend..'I'll see you next year...Knowing full well he won't.
American Graffiti is a great film..I love it..and i'm sure you will too.

Memories are made of this - a fabulous music collection from the Oscar-winning 1960's film. The tracks live on and still time-travel you back to the golden age of youthful rock'n'roll. This has got to be one of my favourite albums, and worth every penny. Thankyou Wolfman Jack.

Nostalgic look back at the early 60's with great rock n roll soundtrack starring Richard Dreyfuss and Ron Howard directed by George Lucas.

An absolute classic. A memory of the teenage years you'd wished you could remember as your own. Suburban middle-class America in 1962. The great music. The amazing cars. Comedy and pathos. Teenage gangs (sanitised of course!). Lovely little vignettes and intertwining storylines: e.g. the college nerd gets off wih the baby doll. "Love Actually" meets "Friends" meets "Dude, where's my Car?" in 1960's America. And it all takes place in one memorable night!

  American Graffiti
Review created: 14/07/08

American Graffitti is an interesting film to say the least. A starting point in movies for Richard Dreyfuss, Harrison Ford, Ronnie Howard and George Lucas. What makes this DVD worth the buy is the absolutely brilliant documentary on the movie. Just like THX, Star Wars, Indian Jones, the documentary makes you appreciate the movie on a whole new level. You learn that this movie cam from nothing, had no money behind it, unknown actors, a bizarre style of story telling and movie making, yet went on to capture the attention and love of a nation. the things George Lucas and Francis Ford-Coppola pioneered at the time was amazing. At a time when the old men of Hollywood were starting to give way to the young, this shows a film made by people with a view of something new.
The four main stories are well entwined, and seem the norm now, but in 1973, having more than one story in this fashion was unheard of. All the actors come off as natural and realistic, based on the idea on cruisin, where high school kids would cruise up and down the main street in their town is the basis for one night before some leave for college. I cannot recommend this enough and if you are interested I would recommend THX 1138 to be watched before hand along with the doco on that DVD and find out the origins of American Zoetrope and then watching this movie to appreciate the talent behind it. This is amazing value.

  Americian Graffiti
Review created: 05/04/08

a most excellent film of when times were good and life was fun.

if you are feeling fed up, this film will take you back to when there were no speed cameras, radar guns, police radios, helicopters or any number of other things to stop you getting in your car and enjoying yourself and when British petrol was 20 pence a gallon!!!

you could also drive at 150 MPH on the new M1 Motorway and not get a speeding ticket.

if only it was 1960 again and again.

Gabby Wilden, Essex.

  American Graffiti (DVD) (PG)
Review created: 11/12/07(updated 11/12/07)

A superb film which allows you to enjoy the nostalgia even if you weren't there at the time.
Ron Howard shows how well he can act and the whole cast recreate the feel of that one night in which so many things are decided that will affect all their futures.
For me, it is the energetic performance from a young Richard Dreyfuss which stands out, but each character seems to contribute to a perfect mix set to a truly great nostalgic soundtrack.
This is a great film to enjoy when you are feeling mellow, but with enough lighter moments to make sure that you end up feeling good.

Loved it the 1st time I saw it, loved it the 10th time. Superb cast of some very young but now famous actors, the storyline is just superbly written. Based in 1950's America with all the cars and top class music from that era. This film is a classic and I would highly recommend anyone who loves that era to buy it.
