The American Civil War (DVD 2002)

great film and documentary all the thrills and spills of the american cival war american history at its best must be watched to beappreciated.

I have long sought a copy of this classic documentary DVD at a reasonable price. It was hopeless to try and find it in Sheffield Our two City Centre shops - HMV & Virgin - are 95% POP/PERSONALITY.
It is one of the great documentaries that was shown on BBC2 many years ago. With its thousands of historic photos, reconstructions and interviews it should be in every library/archive but is not.
I found a DVD set on E-Bay at about half its usual price.

The astonishing record of a war which in many ways was even more tragic and un-necessary than World War 1. 620.000 Americans killed out of 3,000,000 taking part, in a war the South could never win. Considering that photography was in its infancy, and movies still 40 years off the sad story comes to life with astonishing pictures expert commentaries and moving music.

Excellent packing with lots of fascinating extras which greatly added to the TV version: I couldn't recommend this box set more strongly.

I watched this series on tv a few years ago and thought it was excellent, a real labour of love that took years to make.
I saw the dvd set in HMV some time ago, but it was about £50.
When it came up on ebay for a great deal less, I didn't hesitate.

This is an excellent documentary that brings to life the story of the American cival war through not only diaries and letters of the combatants but their families and wider society in general. The naration is superb and adds real dignaty to the documentary. If you have enjoyed the World at War series this is right up your street...

The service for delivery, packing etc was second to none. I knew the content of the DVDs as previously owned in video format. so no surprises there. But good to know that you do get a quality service.

I saw this on television and missed a few of the transmissions. I have been interested in viewing this again and found this copy at an excellent price.
When it has received it was as described by the seller and I can now view in my oown time

Excellent documentary, very complete and fascinating! The top for every passionate person of the American civil war. An impressive number of images of archives and personalities' intervention makes us discover in detail these terrible years of the history of the U.S.A.
It is about the most complete documentary that I had the luck to see. It begins causes of the war and finishes in it after war. Nothing is forgotten!

The original television series was excellent,it was all very graphic but it gave you a sense of the reality of the time.The first battle between the two sides when sightseers' came to watch was in stark contrast to the terrible carnage which was wrought in some of the later well known battles'.I have been waiting to find this in its entirety,there is more in this set than was originally broadcast,I shall now fill my pipe with tobacco and sit and remind myself of a pivotal time in the history of the United States Of America,Simon.
