Alpine SWD-1600 Car Subwoofer

I decied to get an active sub with a built in amp like this one as i couldnt be bothered with buying a separate sub, amp, box, and then trailing wires through the whole car.

So i installed the sub under the front passenger seat, at first i thought it sounded rubbish but you need to play about with the low pass filter knob and slowly turn the gain up. i then had a little play with the sub settings on the headunit. make sure its set for mono not stereo for the sub. and i turned the sub setting onto the highest one on the headunit.

The sub doesnt make your hair shake like a good 10 or 12 inch sub but it just adds a nice bit of mid range bass that my car was lacking. so far i have an alpine 9833r headunit the alpine sub and some infinity 6x9's that were already in the car and i will be fitting some alpine type x components next week into my front door cards which should give me a decent setup.

The sub is very easy to fit. all you have to do is run one wire to the +ve battery terminal, connect a ground (i used a passenger seat mount) connect the remote on and the two phone cables to your headunit and thats it! then fix the sub to your chosen locatoin.

Due to a total lack of space in my Audi TT convertible I opted for two of these units. They are place behind(not under) the seats. Tried them first in the boot but they could nt be heard. Behind the seats is fine and give a decent kick. Does nt compare to a single 8 inch sub but in my car thats simply not an option. Both me and my girlfriend are quite short. If you need to push the chairs all the way back this may be a problem and the subs are too tall to fit under the seats. Hope this helps

Ive just purchased this active sub to compliment my existing Alpine system which includes a 10 inch sub, 6 x 9s in the rear acoustic parcel shelf and 8 inch combination speakers in the doors, all driven by two high end amps. I include this information to make the point that i love my car hi fi and i have to say im absolutely delighted with my latest addition. This baby really delivers. It is so easy to install, sits neatly under the front seat and packs a punch that i find hard to believe from such a small component. making adjustments to your prefered setting is so simple and very accessible. This bit of kit will, im sure compliment any system, even my wife commented today on how much better the music sounded in my golf.
