In space no one can hear you scream....

In space, no one can hear you scream.

Alien is the first movie of one of the most popular sagas in science fiction history, and introduces Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, the iron-willed woman destined to battle the galaxy's ultimate creature. The terror begins when the crew of the spaceship Nostromo investigates a transmission from a desolate planet and makes a horrifying discovery, a life form that breeds within a human host. Now the crew must fight not only for its own survival, but for the survival of all mankind.

  My Fav Film

Alien is my favourite film. Watched it like 10 times or more. Ridley Scott done an amazing job directing this film. Sigourney Weaver plays Ripley, a young lady on the ship Nostromo who is awoken early with her other crew members by the ships computer. A transmission was recieved by a nearby planet that must be investigated. A team is sent to the planet to investigate who or what is sending the message. William Hurt( crew member) is attacked by some strange creature that fixes itself to his face. He is rushed back to the ship to the onboard medical centre. A few days later the creature falls off dead and he awakens from a coma. Then the nightmare really begins. The crew must fight for survival onboard their ship in deep dark space as an alien slowly kills them off. Ripley must fight for her life.
I think Alien is so succesful because it taps into your innermost fears. The effects are still good today and I love the way it was filmed. Ripley gives an amazing performance and stands above the other actors. Although the others were very good too.I think Alien is a must own film. A real true classic sci fi film. I love the bleak alone feeling the film gives. Alone in space, helpless, so far from anyone. Really atmospheric . Wonderful. 10 out of 10.

Alien set the standard and is still the best
Review created: 22/03/09

I first saw this at a cinema with sensurround when it first came out and it was great, so I bought the DVD. I'm not into sci-fi films. This stands alone as a thriller/horror film, but even I found the spaceship settings amazing. The countdown scene to self-destruct is brilliant cinema and just when you think Ripley gets away safely, it's still not over! One of my favourite films and a must-see.

  The original and best..
Review created: 10/12/08

Alien, the original, and best.
A deep space ship responds to a distress call, only to find an Alien intent on destruction of all beings. There is a sub story about the conspiracy, how they were sent there by the Military in the hope of collecting the ultimate weapon.
Special effects look good, even now, after all this time.
Excellent cast.

  ARRRG!!! ITS GOT ME!!!
Review created: 05/11/08(updated 06/11/08)

Well if you don't like monster movies you ain't going to like this. because i believe this is the ultimate monster movie.
watch in awe as weird prosaic horror descends on your everyday 22nd century mining operation.a superb ensemble cast, set design and art direction that still looks good today, possibly Jerry goldsmith's best ever score, and fantastic sound design that compliments it.
They say there are only 12 stories in the world, and this is one of them. the moral being, beware 'the company' a luscious sci-fi tone poem on celluloid.

classic stuff.

What can you say - the best thriller EVER! Bar none
Review created: 25/01/08

It's just an awesome, iconic, genre defining film.
Stark, over-industrialised scenery, dark shooting, hidden alien, supurb use of special affects, and just enough character to have to hoping they don't die, but wincing as they ineviatbly do die.

Turn down the light, and get ready for the thrill-ride.
You'll move from one side of the sofa, to the other, and back again, you'll hide behind cusions, squeal in shock, and even laugh at the odd place.

Buy this film, if it's the only one you ever own!

  Alien (1979)
Review created: 02/10/07

A quintessential SiFi film full of dark and foreboding. Although made 28 years ago the special effects stand up well against those that are entirely Computer generated today. A great film never surpassed that keeps you ‘on the edge of your seat’ to the end.

  The best sci-fi thriller ever
Review created: 12/09/07
by:

This is probably the best science-fiction movie ever made if we talk about the genre of scary monsters. Many movies are made with this theme: a foreign lifeform or beast is threatening a bunch of humans in a claustrophobic environment. So you get both the natural fear of the unknown intruder and the feeling of beeing captured without an easy way of escape. In this movie we follow the crew of spaceship Nostromo heading home, but unfortunately the company that owns the ship delude them (intentionally) to visit a planet and bring with them (unintentionally by the crew) a special lifeform. This is a top priority mission and the crew is expendable, but without the crew's knowlege until it's too late. The head of the company want this creature at any cost brought home because of it's beuty as a survivor and probably as a weapon for 'biological warfare'. So what will happen when a group of humans are put together with this predator? Who is the real great survivor - humans or this alien?
In all sci-fi movies you can watch how time is out dating some of the technology used in a movie. Computers from late 70-ties look a bit old fashioned here, but beside from that the design work is impressive and animation/Alien design by H.R Giger received a price in 1980. Dierctor Ridley Scott made probably his best movie with this thriller and none of the followers in the alien saga becomes as good as this. One or two of the followers are quite good too, but this is the real alien story that influenced a lot of other scary monster movies in the years that followed.

A true must-see movie for those who like scary monster movies and science fiction. This is the ultimate combination of both.

  DVD: Alien
Review created: 13/08/06(updated 13/08/06)
by:

Originally directed by Ridley Scott in 1979, put simply, this movie is a Science-fiction classic that should be in everybodies collection. Made back in a time where CGI graphics or powerful merchandising are non-existent to get in the way of a good storyline, this marks the first horrific chapter of the chilling Alien Science-Fiction saga.

The hellish nightmare begins when the unfortunate and ill-prepared crew of the Nostromo are brought out of their deep hyperspace sleep early to investigate a transmission from a inhospitable and desolate planet.

It is there that one of them are infected by a strange biological life-form which leads to one of the most famous scenes in cinematic history involving William Hurt's exploding chest!

One by one, the struggling crew desperately fight for their own survival against a horrific towering alien monster aboard an increasingly small feeling ship offering very few hiding places.

Alien is brilliantly lit throughout adding to the high suspense, is brilliantly acted, most notably from a young Sigourney Weaver and is one of the few films you can sit and watch again and again with genuine appreciation.

The DVD is well put together, featuring a plethora of Special Features including Original Theatrical Trailers, Deleted Scenes and outtakes.

A superb atmospheric sci-fi classic, filled with suspense that has stood the test of time and further influenced a whole new era of space movies.

In Space No-One can hear you Scream...

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!
