this has got to be the ultimate centre piece of any collection of music from the seattle scene of the nineties. while their plugged albums were bruising muscular grunge affairs, this set is stripped back and the frailty within is revealed. layne stayleys voice is not the strongest but the raw emotion pushed thru it more than makes up for it, also he is helped along by jerry cantrell a great deal, whose album boggy depot is an underratted one at best. an essential purchase.

) Top notch. Alice in Chains is an American hard rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1987 by guitarist Jerry Cantrell and vocalist Layne Staley. Although widely associated with grunge music, the band's sound incorporates heavy metal and acoustic elements. Since its formation, Alice in Chains has released three studio albums, three EPs, two live albums, four compilations, and two DVDs. The band is known for its distinct vocal style which often includes the harmonized vocals of Staley and Cantrell.
