Al Bowlly - The Best of Al Bowlly

I bought this CD for my step father Jim who has childhood memories of WW2. He always loved the music of Al Bowlly and sadly, just before Christmas he had a massive stroke. I read that music can be very good for stroke patients rehab - it makes them feel good and helps them relearn the power of speech. As soon as I put this CD on and placed the headphones on him, a little tear ran down his face. Perhaps I should not have chosen such sentimental tracks to play to him. The Charge Nurse came along and asked what he was listening too and I told him Al Bowlly and it turned out he was a fan too and told how me how Al had died tragically. Jim then said quite audibly 'Cafe de Paris' - which apparently is where Al Bowlly was performing when the place was bombed and he was killed. Jim's power of speech has been improving ever since and fingers crossed good old Al Bowlly is doing his bit for his rehab. It almost goes without saying then that I recommend this CD for all Al Bowlly fans but just remember this CD does not contain perhaps his most famous track 'goodnight sweetheart' made famous recently by the Nicholas Lyndhurst sitcom of the same name. A good buy nevertheless.
