  Advent 4213 Netbook
Review created: 05/04/09
by:

This system was purchased to replace my MSI dual core which became faulty. The system is used to support a dedicated external medical device.

The Advent 4213 is an excellent all round book. I was more then surprised with its capabilities. Plays video and DVD flawlessley. Its only slightly larger then my ASUS 900 but has a great 10" screen and a larger keyboard.

On the negative side the casing smudges easily. It gets hot. The keyboad although very responsive could have been a lot larger. Its also a bit heavy (1.4kg). It does not work with the Dell 5530 WWAN mini card 7.2Mb/s GPS card that supports GPS but the bulit-in HSPA card works seemlessly. The best part, you don't need a nasty dongler to have a mobile broadband setup and running. It is also a joy to upgrade.

As for the GPS, there are some fantastic 51 channel, solar powered blutooth enabled systems that would compliment this system perfectly. When I have this in place, it would become a wonderful business tool.

Overall its a great system. I feel very happy with the purchase.

Little stormer of a netbook, worth the money
Review created: 28/03/09

Amazing value - small, compact and loaded with with all the essentials such as wifi, ethernet, bluetooth and a built in 3g modem; a godsend when you're sat in Edinburgh airport and the only accesible wifi spot comes with a £5 premium.

It'll do pretty much anything you ask of it, I've even ran recording software on it and its coped well although I wouldn't try editing videos or running Photoshop.

On the downside it runs a little hot by the left hand vent and the keyboard is a bit cramped to say the least but for £250 it's an absolute bargain.

  Advent 4213 v Samsung NC10
Review created: 26/02/09
by:

I will keep this short and to the point.
I bought a used Advent (with the PC World receipt & 9 months warranty remaining) off ebay to play with it, as they were selling very well and could easily resell it (which I did) and got most in fact all of my money back.
My verdict is that it is very good, especially for the money, but would have liked the build quality to have been a bit better. I decided to let it go and bought the Samsung NC10 and I think it was well worth the extra, if you can afford it. Without going into too much detail, the three main things that impressed me with the Samsung over the Advent was, in my opinion, 1) The build quality was more substantial. I just feel it will show less signs of wear over time if looked after properly. The Advent felt like it would be less durable to every day use. 2) the setup was more in keeping with a normal laptop such as the keyboard (in regard to functions and size) which makes more of a difference than I first thought it would. 3) However the biggest reason I would influence anyone to go that little bit extra for the Samsung over the Advent is the battery life, 'IT'S MAD'. I mean it knocks spots of the Advent and from what I can gather any of it's competitors to date (as of 25/02/09). I did not realise how much more convenient this would be before I changed netbooks. I never did an accurate test or comparison, but there is no comparison. I think the claim is 7, yes seven hours!!! It is so good I have given up taking the charger just in case (unless I'm not coming home that night) In it's neoprene case it's not much bigger than my diary & for this reason alone it is worth the extra.
Just my opinion!!!
