Acoustic Solutions DVD 222 7 in. Portable DVD Player with Screen

These are quite good machines, the screen is clear and easy to see with the colours quite vibrant. Sound quality is OK (it can be enhanced by using some good over ear headphones).

Probably the clear benefit of this machine is the kit you get with it. Car charger / remote and leads to connect to a full size TV are all present. This is a lot more than you get with many similarly priced players.

(I have sold a number of these players, with no problems so far from my customers, this would suggest that they are reasonably problems free)

This portable DVD player is a really fantastic bargain, absolutely brilliant for the price! (I got it for less than £40 brand new including postage on Ebay.)

It does everything it says on the tin, and comes with all the features you might need, including a decently sized 7" widescreen, remote control, battery pack that can be removed to power the unit directly from AC power, and all the cables you could ever need to connect it to external speakers / PC / TV etc.
It also runs CDs as well as DVDs, and I think it also plays DVD-ROMs and CD-ROMS too - making it very versatile and not just for watching films.

Although it may not have the swish styling of some of the Toshiba / Phillips / Sony players, it also doesn't have anywhere near their price tag, and its silver casing and easy-to-find buttons actually look pretty sleek too. It's nice and light, doesn't get too warm when running, so is perfect for the kids or to keep you amused when travelling.

The removable battery pack is a nice touch, as the player can be run off the mains power adapter or the battery, and if you have another charger you can charge the battery at the same time if you want.

The only minor (and I mean very minor) let-down on this model is the slightly low quality sound output. It crackles a bit when starting up or selecting scenes / menu items, and isn't exactly Dolby Surround Sound, but is perfectly reasonable and no worse than any portable CD player or walkman. But then again, for just a few quid and such a tiny model what do you expect?
Sound quality is actually improved by using the headphones (supplied) or would be even better with a higher-class pair of headphones or external speakers.
There is also no volume control on the remote, only on the player itself, so that could get annoying if you were watching it from further than arm's length away! (But with a small portable player like this, why would you be?)

Overall I think it's a fantastic buy and mine has been a life-saver for long journeys or when away from home. I'd recommend it to anyone and in fact have bought more than one as presents for friends and family.

Even better is the little cheat below that makes it Region-free! Bonus for travelling and buying cheap DVDs overseas!

The Acoustic Solutions DVD 222 portable player is essentially a re-badged Starlite player with upgraded firmware.
You can easily turn a Region-specific player (ie. one that only plays Region 2 DVDs) into a Region-free player to play any DVDs by doing the following:
- Turn the power on, wait for the screen to light up and key in 5168 on the remote to bring up a secret menu
(Key in 9735 for slightly older players if this does not work)
- Use the arrow keys to select the Region encoding, and select Region 0 for Region-free to play any DVD.
- Exit menu to save settings as usual.
Now you can buy cheaper / imported DVDs and watch them all on the player!

In short, you can't go wrong!

Superb little product, ideal for holidays abroad instead of watching NEWS 24 all the time. Clear visual image,good colour, and very easy to operate.Came with all the adapters required just needs 2 pin plug for abroad.Also good for those long waits at the airport using the built in battery, which will see you through a whole film.

Nice portable machine with a pretty decent screen of size and colour which is not bad in the daylight, better at night. Sound through the inbuilt 2 speakers is clear enough. Haven't really tested the battery to full use but it looks to be closer to maybe upto 2 hrs rather than over. Came with a good selection of plug-ins covering TV + scart, Car and mains power and even a remote. Didn't get a manual so I am learning operations as I go. Find it difficult to fast forward to where I left off (maybe you can't!)and must skip scene to scene, but a quick re-run of watched footage is not so much of a hardship. Bought it mainly to while the time away in the car whilst waiting for my son on his evening course & on that basis, it's been great.
There may be better ones on the market but I think I got VFM with this model so far.

I bought this portable dvd player for my daughter. It looks very nice and is easy to use. Especially for little fingers. I dont think there is anything i dont like about it. Everything you need is all at your finger tips. All round good player.

Four things I dont like about it.

1) If you have to switch the unit off midway through a film then you have to start all over again. Most DVD's remember where you left it even if the unit has been off for weeks.

2) If a DVD is not brand new or completely spotless then it will not play.

3) The sound is not very load through built in speakers.

4) Screen is impossible to view in sunlight.

I liked the price, and the large screen also the sound/ volume was alot higher and better quality than my last portable dvd player, I bought it firstly for my 3 year old travelling down to cornwall from leeds to keep her occupied, but now we use when camping in our trailer tent.

I bought 2 of these dvd players for my grandchildren for Christmas, and was very pleased with them. They were not too expensive for the age of the children, one of 12 and one of 8 and they were happy with the picture and the quality of the sound on them.

i bought 2 of these at christmas for my daughters aged 7 and 5. in my opinion it was money well spent as they have hardly put them down since. the picture quality is great for such a small screen. and the fact that they can play cds also is a bonus. they are very robust even though compact. the reason i got 2 is because they never want to watch the same so the headphones come in really handy. i have 2 very happy children at an affordable price. these were cheaper to buy delivered as i could purchase them in the high street. all adaptors were supplied which isnt always the case. overall a great product at a very good price.

Ibought this as a christmas pressie for my 3 year old as he loves warching his dvd's and now can do so when he goes to bed it is very easy to use and he got the hang of it straight away. it was a great price and the seller sent it out straignt away. it is great for when going on a long trip too keeps him very amused. I decided to buy this portablr dvd player as i was going away on holiday with five kids i was travelling by car ,so this was great as it kept the kids busy and not moaning are we there yet.And now we at home they get use the player if someone is already watching the tv so everyone is a winnier.

Sound is good with headphones rather than the tiny speakers. Video is just OK, acceptable.
It has video in and out and will play DivX files (a feature not promoted as they are best viewed on an external 4:3 display).
Keying 5168 on the remote with no disk in the player will display a menu that allows the user to select Region 0.
Better portable players are available but not at the cheap prices these players fetch: new at Argos they are £60 in the Winter 08/09 catalogue.

Cheap and cheerful - does the job for the kids though needs quite careful handling especially tricky to take battery pack on and off. Excellent value for money at this price though!

Fast delivery, excellant DVD player that my child got great use out of on holiday & in the car. I would reccomend this seller.

I won the DVD player and awaited its arrival as my sons 5th birthday present. On opening the box this item was superb, came with all the bits you need to play so i got a DVD and turned it on.!!!! Unfortunately it didn't work.!. I contacted the seller and they by return post sent a replacement. The replacement is superb. Excellent value and excellent product support. Good portable DVD player. The screen is a nice size and its very easy to use, my 4 yr old got the hang of it straight away. the picture quality is excellent but it could do with having louder sound, its a bit too quiet especially in the car

this is an excellent machine easy to use and able to play all regions my kid love it and its cheap..

I brought this player based on another review on this item, I came across on the internet. It's one of the cheapest ones on the market, but I had to admit that I was most impressed with the quality of Vision from it's 7 inch screen and simplicity to use, if you also want to change it to a multi-region player then this also is quite easy, once you've got the code (but note that this will affect your warranty) if something happens to your machine.

The only thing I can say that I dislike about the machine is it's limited volume, you would expect a bit more of a boost but it is quite tame.

Overall it's worth buying, it may not be the best one out there but the quality is still great.
