Acorn Antiques (DVD 2005)

I just love the character Mrs. Overall as brought to life by Julie Walters. She is very ably supported by the rest of the cast. Acorn Antiques is a superb
mickey take of the soaps of the late fifties and early sixties. It even includes wobbly scenery! British comedy at its best.

This DVD is one of those that you will reach for on a rainy day and one that you will watch again and again. Not only do you get the full lot of episodes, but also the behind-the-scenes documentary. Mrs Overall of course is the star of the show, but keep your eye on what is going on in the background at all times! Go on - treat yourself and get this DVD! "OOOOH Miss Babs!!!"

This spoof soap was based on the Crossroads saga (1964-1988) and was absolutely hilarious.

Were Miss Babs and Miss Berta based on Meg Richardson and Tish Hope? Was Trixie Trouble Iris Scott or Jill Richardson, or a touch of both? As for Mrs Overall, her role as charlady was clearly based on Amy Turtle, but weren't her mannerisms and clothes (right down to the eponymous overall!) the spitting image of Mavis Hooper's?

As Crossroads moved "up-market", Acorn Antiques followed suit, incorporating a leisure centre into the antiques shop (!) and vertical blinds into the opening credits.

Brilliant spoof. Miss Babs, Mr Clifford, Miss Berta, Mrs Overall, Derek the handyman and the mysterious Mr Kenneth, I salute you!

Wobbly sets, perfect miss-action, rib tickling gags - Victoria Wood at her best!!. Relive the fabulous acorn antiques again and again. Miss bertie and Mrs overall in your living room. Fabulous value.

It has always been an excellent sketch show and when i noticed that it had come out on DVD, i had to get a copy. It is the most hillarious show ever.

I decided to buy this for my mum, having watched it on the telly years previously, and I thought it was hilarious after watching it myself. If you really need cheering up watch Acorn Antiques.
