This computer isn't so powerful, but It is just enough as a second machine. It looks very good and works well with linux. The wireless connection is very fast and not complicated to configure. I've got a Mac and It wasn't so difficult to start to work with linux. I recommend this very good value machine!
Thanks!

It may be al right for many first using net books but I found it constricting I toyed with either xp or ubuntu and went for ubuntu 9.04 net book remix and boy does it fly its become a pocket media centre I'm well pleased with my net book now its fight between the kids and I who's using it

  WARNING newandusedlaptops4u are CON-ARTISTS
Review created: 15/09/09
by:

I bought a laptop from newandusedlaptops4u. Sadly it broke after I used it only twice (but I have heard that this item is 1st class when working). So I can not offer much advice about the product, but I can warn any potential buyers to avoid newandusedlaptops4u. These con-artists took my money and when I complained they requested I return the item (which cost me another £15.00 in P&P). They then returned the laptop to me a week later still broken. I once again phoned them, and was asked to return it for a second time – Which I did, costing me another £15.00 P&P. Since then I can not get a reply to any of my emails and the number listed on eBay no longer works! Since I paid for the item by cheque, eBay cannot give me a refund and are of no use whatsoever... Be warned newandusedlaptops4u claims to be a business, but are nothing more than con-artists!

  Great netbook
Review created: 05/09/09

powers up in 15 seconds, decent battery life, quick charge time, light, thin and neat wallet style holder. as long as you have windows on it if you dislike linux then can say anything bad about this netbook.

  Wicked machine
Review created: 24/08/09
by:

Google Acer Aspire One tweaks for info on how to enable advanced options (installing programs - whoo!) and creating backups etc, check out macles blog. Also worth upgrading to a more recent version of Open Office and Firefox for bext functionality. A few tweaks aside it is a fantastic machine for the money (not convinced the newer 160gb version is worth a lot more), perfect for kids. To be very critical, bluetooth would be nice too.

  Real value for money
Review created: 02/08/09

I bought this as a cheap way of getting onto the net, and it is so much more. The only drawback really is this is doesn't have Windows on it and Linux isn't as functional as I thought it might be. Linux does have it's upsides though, and turning the machine on to being on the internet only takes a matter of seconds.

Great Little Machine Tough and Durable yet Small & Tidy

Easy to operate, great Windows XP Install just google and you must use XP Service Pack 3. Does everything that it says in the Ad Plus More. Linpus is a little locked down for my liking but that can easily be resolved by installing ubuntu or Redhat.

Quality is outstanding, good package overall and well worth the money.

  Bought for travelling
Review created: 25/07/09
by:

My partner and I bought the Acer as we are going travelling for a year in September. We thought getting a netbook would be ideal as it will easily fit into our backpack and allow us to keep in touch while we are away.
When the Acer arrived we gave it a full charge, turned it on and it was ready to use. Linux and the home screen are very easy to use, we drove the acer to the nearest free WiFi hotspot to check connectivity and connected no problem. This is exactly what we wanted, enabling us to stay in touch whilst we're away. A great easy to use product and amazing value for money, especially in comparison to high street retailers.

  Acer Aspire ONE Netbook
Review created: 25/07/09
by:

I decided to buy this netbook because I go on holiday abroad each year and it would be nice to keep up with my e-mails. This netbook is ideal for travelling because it is much smaller and lighter than a PC laptop. It has 1 gb of RAM and a 120gb hard disc which is ample for travelling. Battery life is around 3 hours but the netbook can easily be charged with the lead provided. The net book came in its original box with accessories and a 1 year warranty and, for the money I paid, it is a great bargain.

  Amazing little machine
Review created: 21/07/09

I decided I needed a netbook as my old laptop died and I want to go back to college next year so needed something portable.

I love everything about this machine. It's very light yet very powerful. I'm new to the Linux system but there are a lot of helpful guides on the internet. I was expecting a lot of faffing around to get connected to my wireless broadband (I had installed Linux on my last laptop and couldn't get a connection) but I was connected within a couple of minutes with just a couple of clicks.

So far there's nothing I don't like. It certainly isn't as user-friendly as Windows; things like changing the desktop take quite a lot work but overall I think the positives of Linux outweigh the negatives. If you really want Microsoft Windows you can easily install it.

Be warned though, Super Tux is very addictive!

  First 4 Days
Review created: 20/07/09
by:

A light, compact and easily portable netbook with a good browser and office applications suite included. Apart from Firefox and Open Office you probably won't want to use any of the installed applications or the games. It looks attractive and the display is good quality.

If you're used to other operating systems you,ll find the installed system very inflexible and this is a problem becouse you're likely to want some other functional software.

I have no previous experience of Linux, but this is what I've discovered in the first 4 days.

First, the desktop can't be altered. Normally a standard KDE desktop can be restored, but not in this version of Linux. The result is that added applications can't be started from the desktop. The instructions contains no guidance on how to add applications, or how to start them once they are added, but an internet search will tell you.

Some applications install easily - Skype and Picasa3 are two I use which installed relatively painlessly. They are my only successes so far.

The installed media player isn't really functional, it lacks the codecs to play any of my movies. Realplayer or VLC can be downloaded as bin files, but they don't self install and although I've found out how to execute them I've not yet been able to successfully navigate to them.

Apparently Spotify will run under Wine ( a windows emulator) but again, I've not yet been able to successfully set this up.

Although an external monitor is supported it doesn't support an extended desk top, so the same thing appears on both screen, and you need a wide screen monitor or the desktop is stretched. The resolution of the monitor cannot be adjusted.

BBc iplayer will play smoothly in standard screen but jerks in full screen. This doesn't occur on an identical machine running XP. ITV iplayer requires Moonlight to be installed, but even after installing Moonlight I have not yet got it to play.

In short, some common customizations, which are effortless on other operating systems require research, time and the learning of new skills to achieve.

This is a fully functional netbook at a bargain price, but be prepared to spend some time and effort to tailor it to your personal requirements.

They say small things come in great packages and this is one of them. I have the linux based version and I have to say it's quick start up and ease of use are one of it's many pluses. Don't get me wrong it's not a top of the range fully loaded beast but if your happy with just sufing the net and not doing anything that is too cpu intensive this little box of tricks will fill the gap nicely.

Excellent value for money. Was a little concerned initially as it was much cheaper than the average notebook and unfamiliar with software package. So far we have found the software easy to navigate and although its still early days, we are very happy with it.
