i brought this board knowing fully what it was capable off and it has lived up to every expectation soo far...

i wanted a board that i could use my superfast core 2duo chip with (E6850 *3GHZ*) i also wanted to have a slightly future proof board with the infinate knowlege of asus and nvidia this board supports the 1333mhz fsb and the new 45nm core2 and core 2 extreme chips ddr2 800mhz ram up to 8GB so you arnt going to run out of ram ( supports nvidia's enhanced performace profile (EPP) for sli ram caperble of 1200mhz

being a gamer my self i just had to have SLI suporting 3 pci-e slots at x16 speed is great...

as for appearence the board just looks beautiful bright blue led's so thers no fumberling in the dark everything is well spaced and very accessable

**** BIOS UPDATEING******

easy...... nuff said

well dont think i can say much more about this its just great... not had a problem i would rate this 9.5/10

why because thers ALLWAYS room for improvement :D

why i keep buying this model is a mystery, but i think its the challenge to get them running to its top performance (which im sure would be fantastic if it does what it says on the box)!!!!!!!!!!!
Wouldnt recommend to a novice builder, or anyone who wouldnt know how to correct the MANY problems this board gives you.
Main problems I have encountered: ram slots, 2 and 4 work and 1 and 3 dont, and vice versa
Upgrading the bios: this is a risky business for any board, but this is a pig

I have rated it low purely on its tempermentalness (basically you should be able to buy a board put it in and off you go - hassle free), but with the ones I have had that HAVE been ok, they are top boards and do perform well

  What a crap mainboard

Ever since i bought this main board, my pc kept blue screening. I updated the bios and this did not help at all. It will not except my X-fi elite pro sound card and nor will it accept my 9450 Intel processor. If i was you buying this item, i would consider the latest board by Asus as this has the support for these components.

  The ASUS Striker Extreme
Review created: 22/09/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Once in a proverbial blue moon, a piece of hardware comes along that promises to be within a league all its own. Such is the case with the ASUS Striker Extreme Edition motherboard. I’ve read a lot about the ASUS Striker Extreme motherboard lately, and I’ve been rubbing my hands together in eager anticipation of this. I have the chance to review what many regard to be the fastest mother board on the planet. Built upon the new NVIDIA 680i chipset, the Striker is a member of ASUS’ new Military-themed motherboards. That’s not to say ASUS has switched to a camouflage PCB, but names like ‘Striker’ and ‘Commando’ serve to suggest that these new boards are performers.

..The ASUS Striker Extreme is one hell of a beautiful motherboard. It’s built like a brick house, near perfectly designed, and boasts a number of unique features. ASUS also bundled more hardware/software with the Striker than most motherboard manufacturers would ever consider. You certainly get your money worth with the Striker.

At about 150 pounds on-line, it is quite the investment. But considering that it will handle SLI with the dual 16x PIC-e slots, that’s a big selling point. The third PCI-e 8x slot for physics calculations is another benefit. And the bundle alone is almost all the excuse you need to buy the Striker. It may not have the brute strength bandwidth of an Intel chipset based board, but data compression and memory throughput isn’t everything.

After reading all the reviews about this motherboard,i finally decided to buy one even though my pc is less than 6 months old.

At first is was real hard to get the pc to boot up (POST).But after going on the Asus forums,i was able to get it all working fine.

The overclocking capabilities of the board are amazing,as this was my main reason for buying it i am now over the moon with it.

I have now managed to overclock my E6600 core 2 duo from 2.4ghz to 3.3ghz while being totally stable.

If you have plenty of patience,a reasonably fat wallet, and the need to push your hardware to the max, then this is the mobo for you!

This is a Real Gamers Dream M,B, i had run 2x7900GTX on both full speed x16 plus Asus physX1 Ageia card and this was just WAW but i swop this cards for 8800GTX+physX1 ageia and is just so good to play , and yes this is for easy overclocking board and bios update option and logo changing ! when comp starts is nice to see your own logo , also all pentium 775 procesors suppor 65nm & 45nm !dual , duo2 or quadro core but there is small minus,,,,!! ram speed! only up to 1066Mhz DDR2 PC-8500 ... Extreme Striker got FSB 1333MHz my cpu E6850 FSB 1333MHz but i run ram on 800MHz PC-6400 & max i can instal PC-8500 1066Mhz but bios see it as a 667Mhz so you have to proced quick manual overclocking , just to change from 667 to 1066 , i was trying to overclock those ram to 1333 but system wont start up.Then Again 800Mhz ram whent to 960Mhz and not problems at all.

First thing you notice (hard not too)is the massive box it comes in and its not just a box for show ,it rammed packed full of asus accessory's .The motherboards design in top class, ive never seen a board look this good before ,A huge copper heat pipe cools the system bus therefore no need for fans it has 3 pci-e 16 slots for graphics cards which i fought they coulds have spaced them out a bit more if i fill them with 9800 gx2 i would leave no room for air flow and my babys would fry . lots of connectors on it ,10xusb ,fire wire , sata internal and external , optical and fiber optical sound plugs you name it this has got it .There is also three little buttons built on the board ,reset ,power ,clr/cmos and a button on the back which lights up the board with blue leds (a modders dream) even the hdd led ,reset ect pins are made simple but a little dongle which you attach to your reset, power button ,power led , hdd led ect then you just simply plug that into your m/b and away you go . Asus fx add in sound card with full 7.1 surround which sounds as good as any high end sound card .
To sum this board up its worth every penny i paid for it and would still be happy if it cost double .There is no better board than this .Watch out gamers the S-T-R-I-K-E-R is here to blow your fps away .Thank you asus

  Asus Striker Extreme
Review created: 11/03/08
by:

I decided to buy this board due to its overclocking abilities, and also since it is capable of supporting the future 45nm Intel processors. But, due to newer boards coming out that already support the 45nm processors (I believe the Striker Extreme requires a BIOS flash, yet to be created by Asus) this board may or may not get this new BIOS.

Apart from that, I had very little trouble setting up this board. The only problem I had, which was a very minor and easy one to rectify, was the RAM voltage setting is set at 1.8v by default. This caused random errors and crashes. Once the RAM voltage was set to its native 2.1v everything went swimmingly. I am also using 2x1GB OCZ Platinum XTC RAM, which is not in the Quality Vendor List, but works excellently. Its rated at 800MHz, and currently mine is running overclocked at 900MHz.

Im currently running an Intel E1200 1.6GHz Dual Core CPU (overclocked at 2.2GHz) with this board, its alo ran a Pentium D Dual Core 3.2GHz CPU, and an Intel Q6600 Quad Core 2.4GHz SLACR with no problems at all. (Im currently waiting on an order for my own Q6600!)

As for the general running, I would recommend having a case with good airflow, at least one decent 120mm fan, as with gaming the copper piping can runquite warm, especially on the northbridge area.

Im using one Nvidia 7950GX2 along with my setup, and I must say it runs very quietly! The onboard power/reset/Clear CMOS buttons are an excellent touch, and the lights are a good idea, but more of a gimmick than actually useful. The only minor gripe I can see is the ATX power and the one IDE socket. I would have preferred this to have been seperated away from eachother, but since all my devices are SATA, it doesnt really bother me.

Overall I am very pleased with the board! The packaging and bundle are excellent, and the board itself runs like a dream! So far I have been able to push CPUs quite far with still a good amount of headroom left!

If you are going to buy one of these boards, I would certainly do some homework on components, make sure theyre compatible, and upgrade to the latest BIOS version, as Ive found on forums etc when I was checking out this board it is not without its problems, as with many other boards.
