So i sold my old PC thinking i wouldn't return to a PC ever again because i bought my Playstation 3 console from ebay and this does everything that a PC does but much more faster.

But only to realise when the UK PS3 Launch day came out, i had been robbed blind and scammed doh! so i had to look for a new PC until my money had been returned by ebay/paypal.

I saw a lovely 64 4200+ X2 bundle with 1GB DDR2 ram which i bought straight away at a very low price, my old PC was a 64 3500+ with 512mb DDR1 ram, so you'd think this upgrade made a difference, especially now because i have dual core over the single core, well... though i can see a bit of improvement i havn't fully tested the machines full capability as i havn't yet bought a graphics card.

Now, i've tested the processors powers on Vista Ultimate x64 and the operating system really adapts to dual core and the speed is amazing, it runs vista better than XP or 2000, i've done virus scanning, listening to windows media player and talking on Windows Live Messenger without any sign of lag, so comparing this to my old AMD 64 3500+ i'd give this processer a 9/10, but to compare this to any other processer this is deffinately worth a buy and it sells at low prices now!

Sorry for grammar and spelling, i'm not that great at writing reviews but i thought i'd give it a try.

  AMD Athlone 4x2 4200 and Asus A8-NE
Review created: 09/06/07

A couple of years ago I built a new PC based on the Asus A8-NE motherboard to handle multi-tasking software, six HDD, and various other hardware - strictly for work, this was NOT a gaming machine. Runnning XP SP2 it behaved well but the AMD 3400 CPU struggled at times, particularly when handling big graphics.Rather than re-build the machine I opted to try an AMD 64x2 4200. The motherboard is actually only rated to 3800 but the general opinion was that it could cope. I bought the new CPU as an unboxed OEM item at a superb price from the USA. Installation only took a couple of minutes and the system accepted its new "heart" with absolutely no problems. The difference in handling multi-tasking is significant [even running 32 bit software] and for such a simple upgrade well worth the effort. Despite numerous comments on the web regarding these CPU's running hot I have never had problems. With the same cooling used by the single core 3800 it has never exceeded 40'C, even at full chat. I've used AMD for ten years now and will certainly continue to do so.

It was a reasonable price for dual code CPU and my system is running a lot better now. The purchase was easy and the goods arrived within the time stated. All round very pleased with it.
