  Good film starring Heath Ledger
Review created: 08/09/08

This is the story of William, a young squire with a gift for jousting. After his master dies suddenly, the squire hits the road with his cohorts Roland and Wat. On the journey, they stumble across an unknown writer, Chaucer. William, lacking a proper pedigree, convinces Chaucer to forge genealogy documents that will pass him off as a knight. With his newly-minted history in hand, the young man sets out to prove himself a worthy knight at the country's jousting competition, and finds romance along the way.

  Jousting to Rock Music
Review created: 03/06/08

It's the story of a low born servant of a noble who poses as a Knight to compete in jousting touraments. Lots of action and, of course, a romantic interest. Basically, it's jousting to a rock music sound track.

  A KNIGHT'S TALE
Review created: 12/04/08
by:

I watched this as I wanted to get more of a handle on the tragically truncated career of Heath Ledger. Sadly is shed no light at all. I was also tempted by it being one of Chaucer's tales. - Yes a tale, a vignette not a padded out film of two hours long. Stylistically it is also challenging as it suddenly overlays a medieval courante with contemporary rock music from the lies of Queen & Robbie Williams. And quite frankly seeing big ensemble numbers supposedly at the court of Edward the Black Prince jigging like stoned tarts at Glastonbury just doesn't inspire or elevate the mind and stretches the realms of plausibility! And it is clearly set in its contemporary medieval setting (difficult to stick a film about jousting somewhere else), it's not like it's a modern interpolation. The female lead and object of Mr Ledger's passion is dressed like a Beaton model at Ascot, except far more and far too tarty.
And that's basic all the film is a dreary boring long-winded heterosexual romp. Ugh! Tedious! I think I'll try and sell my copy on e.bay

  A Knight's Tale
Review created: 04/02/08

This is a really good, easy to watch film about one man's quest to become a knight. There is an excellent soundtrack, including Queen's 'We Will Rock You' and some fantastic dialogue, especially from 'Chaucer'. Whilst there are elements of the film that are not strictly true to the era of the film, these in no way detract from its brilliance. Superb acting all round. I'd recommend it to everyone!

  Riotously funny and shamelessly anachronistic
Review created: 03/02/08

This is a great film, although Heath Ledger really has the whole film stolen from under his nose the moment Paul Bettany walks onto the screen. Completely naked. So a bit of an entrance really.

This film is really lovely all over. Very very funny, with unashamedly inappropriate costumes, music and scenery which just works brilliantly because they don't care.

Watch out for the fantastic dance sequence, where stately medieval gradually fuses into ..well... basically a bit of a contemporary dance moment I suppose.

Far too many other good moments to describe, but highly recommended overall. The plot is ludicrously thin but the film is so enjoyable it's quite easy to suspend disbelief and be thoroughly delighted by the ending.

Of course :o)

A Knights Tale - A fabulous family film!
Review created: 26/01/08
by:

This is a wonderful film with something for everyone in the family. When I bought it my daughter was 13 and my son 7. The action and adventure, excellent jousting and swordfighting scenes thrilled my son, whilst not being too graphic or glorifying fighting. My daughter and I loved the romance and historical aspects, the costumes and pageantry, and the humour, especially Chaucer, played by Paul Bettony, the bloke from the film "Wimbledon". My husband loved the soundtrack with music from Queen, David Bowie, and Thin Lizzy.
Starring the sadly recently deceased Heath Leger at his most gorgeous, this is a medievil action packed romance, with humour, adventure and masses of action. Heath plays William Thatcher, a poor steward to an innefectual knight, who takes up jousting when his master dies by creating the new persona of a none existant knight called Ulrick. With help from his friends, a female blacksmith, and the obligatory comedy duo of one plump and one thin friend, plus Chaucer, of all people, he sets off to win fame and fortune, and the hand of the beautiful heroine. At every turn he is beset by the baddy, played by Rufus Sewell, who plays the opposite of Leger by being dark, rich, swarthy and sophisticated although equally hansome, who is jealous of William's sucess, both in the jousting field and with the heroine, Lady Jocelyn.
We bought this DVD back in 2003 and have watched it many, many times since. We have recommended it to all our friends with children and they all loved it as much as we did. If you liked Pirates of the Carribean or Harry Potter you will really enjoy it, and so will children of all ages from about 5 upwards, when they can follow the plot. It is rated PG.
We most recently on Tuesday 22nd Jan 2008 when we learned that Heath Leger had died, and cried. A fabulous family film and a fitting tribute to Heath Leger.

  A Knights Tale DVD
Review created: 24/09/07

The 14th Century takes on a new look in A Knights Tale, an exciting, action-packed comedic adventure.
Starring Heath Ledger with hilarious performances from Mark Addy, Paul Bettany, Alan Tudyk and introducing the sensational Shannyn Sossamon.

Heath Ledger is William Thatcher, a peasant who breaks all the rules when he passes himself off as a knight and takes the jousting world by storm. The only thing that stands between William and his dream of becoming the world champion is the bad boy of the sport, Count Adhemar (Rufus Sewell).

Packed with action, comedy, romance and treachery and with a sensational soundtrack including music from Robbie Williams and Queen, this action packed comedic adventure of medieval gallantry and contest is guaranteed to rock you.

A fantastic film, very funny.
One of Heath Ledger's best film's to date.
A must see movie!

Heath Ledger is a fab actor but backed up by Paul Bettany - Could it be any better??
Love this film, as does my daughter.
Good old fashioned tale of good triumphing over evil; with a bit of hanky panky and lots of humour thrown in besides.
Highly recommended.
