Reviews The simple, yet eye catching cinematography of the French landscape is great to watch. It is a sweet love story that is lovely to lose yourself in for over an hour. It has everything, sorry kids no monsters, no sciFi, no one gets murdered, just a lovely story, and a happy ending. Thank goodness I could find it on Ebay now I am looking for the Sound track.. and the Edmundo Ross music, I will wait... Well done Ebay for saving me the pain of sitting in traffic and £2 to park and time to hunt for the film not in stock, waiting for it to come in and the pain all over again.. ebay is quicker and easier thanks for that.. THE HARD HEADED RUTHLESS MERCHANT BANKER - RUSSELL CROWE GOES THROUGH AN UNEXPECTED CHANGE IN ATTITUDE REGARDING HOW AND WHERE HIS LIFE IS GOING.SET IN PROVENCE THIS CLASSIC FILM LIVES AND BREATHES FRENCH CULTURE, FROM THE VINYARDS TO THE QUAINT LITTLE TOWNS.THE JOURNEY FOR CROWE'S CHARACTER TAKES AND JOLT WHEN HIS FAVOURITE UNCLE DIES - WHO HE HAS NOT SPOKEN TO FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. CROWE'S CHARACTER IMMEDIATLEY LOOKS AT THE PROFIT VALUE FROM THE PROPERTY AND LOOKS AT SELLING TO ENHANCE HIS PERSONAL FORTUNE. A SERIES OF BELEIVABLE EVENTS OCCUR THAT STEER HIM AWAY FROM THE MERCENARY COURSE TO A MORE REALISED ATTITUDE REGARDING WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN LIFE. THE ANGLO/FRENCH RIVALRY IS EVIDENT - THE GAME OF TENNIS IS EXCELLENT CROWE POINTS TO HIS t-SHIRT AND SAYS "FRED PERRY", THE FRENCH HIRED HAND POINTS TO HIS CAP AND SAYS "HENRI LA COSTE". LET THE BATTLE OF NATIONS BEGIN. ANYBODY WHO HAS TRAVELLED AROUND FRANCE WILL LOVE THIS FILM. ANY ONE WHO LOVES A GOOD OLD FASHIONED STORY OF LOVE AND ROMANCE AGAIN WILL LIKE THIS FILM. IF YOU WANT DEATH AND MUTILATION THEN STAY AWAY AS THIS FILM IS FAR TOO INTELLECTUAL AND WELL CRAFTED FOR THE RAMBOS OF THIS WORLD. GET A BOTTLE OF RED WINE AND SIT BACK AND ENJOY A POIGNANT FILM THAT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD FOR DAYS AFTERWARDS. CROWE IS KNOWN FOR HIS HARDMAN ROLES BUT THIS ONE SURPRISED ME AS IT SHOWS THE DEPTH OF HIS ACTING ABILITY. HIS SUPPORTING CAST IS SUPERB INCLUDING OSCAR WINNER MARION COTLLARD AS CROWES VERY BEAUTIFUL AND VERY SEDUCTIVE LOVE INTEREST. WATCH OUT FOR ABBIE CORNISH'S BUM - VERY NICE!!! BUY THE FILM - ENJOY IT AND THINK ABOUT WHAT LIFE MEANS TO YOU. CHEERS TONY Review ID: 10000000008393263 Was this review helpful? Russel Crowe is brilliant in this film but he also has good backing actors. This film is true to French life in the country but is also a typical good romantic film with that necessary touch of comedy. Overall a brilliant film. 10 out of 10 definitely!
