  The Snazzy HTC Touch

Underneath the snazzy interface, the HTC Touch is a Windows Mobile 6.0 smartphone with all the usual productivity and multimedia applications.
Using a technology called TouchFLO, HTC have made the Touch very much easier to control with a finger rather than a stylus. The Touch automatically distinguished between a stylus and a finger, You simply sweep your finger across the display and the Touch comes up with an elegant interface that is specially optimised for this type of use.
It's pretty compact for a smartphone, weighing just 112 grams and measuring 100 x 58 x 14mm. Talktime is a reasonable 5 hours with up to 8 days standy time. It has a tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM device with GPRS, EDGE, 802.11 WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. The Screen is 240x320 pixel display and 2.8" in size and can display in up to 65,000 colours.
While it is not going to be the perfect solution for power users and other road warriors that need to edit documents and create dozens of emails in a day, it could well be the perfect device for people who generally just need to keep on top of their appointments and manage their lives.
"Highly Recommended"

  Clever clever phone.

I have owned this phone, the HTC Touch for just a couple of months but already I have benefited from it's technology and "cleverness". It took a week or so to get used to because it is hard having a phone with no physical key pad. After a little cramming with the user manual it's the best phone I have had. I have always had Nokias before but they are way behind this (my opinion). This has also helped me organise things with the easy access to my calender online. I could gush all day, suffice to say; Love it.

  HTC TOUCH PDA PHONE
Review created: 27/05/08

GOOD PHONE SMALL AND FULL FUNTION >>>><<<&lt;<<So, what about that interface? Well, at first glance it looks very good indeed. In place of the usual Windows Mobile Today screen is one that gives you a large clock display and big icons that are easily tappable with the finger, linking to features ranging from getting weather information that's downloaded over the air and includes a five-day forecast, to the conventional Today screen and a 'launcher' for various applications and settings.

More innovative is what HTC calls the TouchFLO interface. You swipe a finger upwards from the bottom of the screen to the top and it turns up a new screen. Then swipe left-to-right or right-to-left to get a second screen and a third. The transition between screens is cute - you get the feeling a cube is rotating inside the HTC Touch in a sort of Tardis-like fashion.

One of these screens offers picture contacts, one is a three-way split between music, photos and videos (though be aware that the headset connector is a mini USB type not a standard 3.5mm type), and the third divides the screen into six large squares offering tappable shortcuts to features like Tasks, Calendar, e-mail and Internet Explorer.

Choose one of these and you are dropped into Windows Mobile 6. You will almost certainly need to call on the stylus at this point to tap at on-screen options, though there are some neat touches like swiping the screen for an automatic scroll though your contacts. None of the TouchFLO interface elements works when the HTC Touch's screen is in landscape orientation, though.

While it is pretty clever and has a certain 'wow' factor, the interface isn't really a giant leap forward. Add into the mix the fact that this is a tri-band handset rather than quad, and that it has 128MB of ROM and 64MB of RAM and the full picture becomes clear.

The HTC Touch is a very neatly designed device with a software front-end layered on top of Windows Mobile 6 rather than fully integrated into it, and it has far from leading-edge general specifications, although it does also sport a 2-megapixel camera and Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth.

Serious Business PHONE - Not a FUN PHONE
Review created: 18/02/08

I LOVE HOW THIS MOBILE LOOKS - BUT.....!!!!!!!!!!!
It is slow at loading programs and other basic things - Texting is a long affair - you have to first go into files menu - then choose "in-box" - then choose "NEW" - then choose "MMS or SMS"......THERE IS NO SHORT CUT..... and then you have to use the popout stylis pen to type your message (i lost mine - replacement are £2:99). Sadly... if you like fast texting... you will hate this phone...

It is Easy to Dial or answer any call and there is a great "TouchFLO" cube thats great fun - you have the option to store your friends face picture with their number on the spinning cube- i love that bit - but finding all your other stored numbers is hard work.... a rather long winded affair and requires you to use the pop out stylis pen .. to search through files until you find the stored number file. This is frustrating when ya in a pub and just want to use ya thumb. Being acurate at touching the big phone screen is important and nearly always requires the Stylis pen in order to get it right first time.

This is a great phone if you like office functions and storing your data in a conventional windows file format - But it is not good if you hate looking for folders and files when you want to find someones number
It is aimed at business users - WIFI surfing is very easy on this big screen display - E-mails, Typing letters, Taking voice memo's, diary options are all great and familiar easy standard windows programs.
This is a serious adult phone - not a Fun Party Phone to use down the pub.

FOR SOME REASON - I cannot receive picture messages - Its a common PDA issue - I believe you have to phone your personal simm network and tell them youre using a HTC PDA phone which means they abjust your network send/receive settings to a pda format.

The HTC Touch really is crammed full of features to combine phone and PDA in one, yet still massively smaller than the earlier MDA Compact phones.

A few things to be aware of though:
I unlocked mine from orange to Vodafone. According to the manual it's then supposed to automatically set up the new numbers but mine didn't (don't know why).
If you have your voicemail set to phone you, as there's no keypad you can't delete the message during the call.

These really are minor points and don't detract from the ease of having everything combined in one neat device.

I was dubious about buying a mobile phone second hand incase it was broken or damaged or just didnt work properly.
when this arrived it works perfectly and is one of the best mobile phones i have ever had.
I have had other mobile phones that i have found hard to use and awkward, but with this one being touch screen then it is so simple to use.

One of the best PDA's around
Review created: 10/12/07

When i finally got sick and tired of my Samsung D900 and the designers lack of thought for the basic's (like SMS tone) it coincided with the self destruction of my old Dell AXIM. When i looked for a replacement for both it was an easy choice. The HTC Touch mixes an excellent phone with and excellent PDA. It runs Windows 6 and the system is so far faultless. The camera is only 2mb but at the end of the day thats not why i bought it, the camera is just an added bonus. wifi etc all work very well. It is a good size, still remaining pocket size even with its case on. Through and through one of the best phones/PDA's i've ever owned.

Great phone- I needed fast wifi so that I can download emails wherever there is wifi, without spending on GPRS. Works really fast and is quicker than booting my computer. Lots of gadgets and fun interface. Not bad on battery life, either. Google maps works great- gives pretty good idea of position and have used it a number of times when lost in London.

HTC Touch Mobile Phone - MS Windows Mobile 6.0 Device
Review created: 07/02/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Great bit of kit, compact and light weight. Have tried other touch phones but this one beats them all hands down as you can either use the stylus provided or your finger. Don't bother with Apple's iPhone as this has much more features and is half the price.

Latest version of MS Mobile 6.0 is a bonus.

Battery life is good, can last the week if only making/receiving calls. When using bluetooth/wireless life dramatically goes down. I would expect to charge up on alternate days, though tend to connect up the device to machine at work during day so it is topped up daily via the standard USB connection.

Installed the Skype mobile client to make free calls over internet via the built in wireless, so can make and receive many calls for free, where I can access a wireless connection.

I have paired the device up with a set of Sony Bluetooth headphones so can listen to my music and take calls when they come in, without the tangle of wires.

You can install TomTom or similar software and pair up the phone with a bluetooth GPRS receiver and you then have a full SATNAV system.

All in all I have very pleased with this purchase and it was a great upgrade to my old SPV phone running MS Mobile 5.0

Unstoppable addiction to playing with it!
Review created: 27/01/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Pros:
It is windows mobile 6 operated - familiar surroundings for any user, syncs with PC Outlook and copies all contacts and emails(not hotmail mail unfortunately)
Easy to understand "flo touch" menu - this menu designed for people with big fingers in mind
Micro SD expandable memory
Size and weight is excellent, fits just into the palm of your hand and just over 100g with the battery in

Cons:
No fm radio
Cannot download hotmail mail to PDA outlook, have to use web based browser so have to reply to emails whilst online (costing alot for those who do not have inclusive data packages)
Keyboard abit small for finger typing have to pull out the stylus all the time - but have been told there is downloadable t9 keypads available

Overall:
The most addictive phone/pda purchase i've had, haven't been able to put it down yet and its been 3 days! With this all in one gadget i can get rid of my old PDA and phone! By far the best gadget ever, will be recommending this to all my friends!

  HTC TOUCH / HTC ELF / P3450
Review created: 07/11/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Standard spec mid level Windows Mobile Device.

128MB ROM / 64MB RAM / 200MHZ CPU

Not alot of buttons.... i know they are really pushing this as a mainly "Touch" device, but i dont think this phone is on the same level as the iPhone.

Windows Mobile Device should have a few more buttons than this one IMO.
Saying that, it performs well, looks sexy and has WiFi. Unlike the Touch Dual version.

HTC Touch / HTC Touch Diamond - 2 reviews in 1
Review created: 03/10/08
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is actually a review for the HTC Touch Diamond, but as the item title is listed as the HTC Touch I will write a review for that too (my previous phone).

HTC Touch:

The HTC Touch is an excellent phone and was a breakthrough for Windows Mobile devices - sleek, functional and with a good feature set. It is still, however, a previous generation now and lacks the processing power / memory to run the best and newest applications out. The lack of a physical keyboard also makes a big difference: I compared the Touch and the Touch Diamond and although both are a similar size the Touch Diamond just seems far easier to write emails and texts on. I think it is just the difference in casing as perhaps more importantly, the quality of the t9 dictionary.

Over-all I would recommend the HTC Touch but only if you are on a budget and are getting a good deal for your money (paying less than £100 for a good condition device). It remains an excellent phone for both personal and business use.

On the technical side of things everything is good - signal quality is excellent, audio quality is good but as always could be better and everything runs very smoothly.

HTC Touch Diamond:

The new generation of HTC handsets (Touch Diamond and Touch Pro) are both excellent handset, but if you are willing to wait a few months, there are new line of devices being released by HTC - please visit their website for more details.

However, the Touch Diamond, to me atleast, will remain a distinct device - it has an excellent screen and all the hardware you could want in a mobile device (HSDPA, fast processor, GPS, bluetooth and WIFI). I strongly recommend this device for under £200. It is a joy to use and actually wasnt planning on keeping it when I bought it but have been persuaded to do so.

As a business professional it is like a right hand man - excellent signal quality, call quality and fast GPS tracking along with a fast processor, plenty of memory and fast HSDPA signal everywhere it is really always there to help me whenever I need directions, meeting information or am just looking for a bite to eat or a place to relax in the local area.

My biggest problem with the Touch Diamond is the battery life - lasting 1 day at the most. This is a problem if I am out all day, use the GPS a bit and then need to go out in the evening - the battery probably wouldnt make it past 4pm so I would highly recommend getting the extended battery or a portable charger (car/remote battery charger, etc). Please note that this battery life is on 2G most of the time, 3G when using GPS for about an hour and playing about 30 minutes of music and using as an ebook reader for 30 minutes - yes my phones have a lot of work to do, loll.

If you have any other queries I am more than happy to answer - please email gemini3876@gmail.com.

As a previous PDA/Mobile phone user, I was after something more compact, light weight, and more user friendly than the ones I had before. I had read about the new Touch technology as a tempting added bonus that although its effciency appeared to be rather rather skeptical to me, I felt I should give it a try. I did! and very please to have done so! Its a cute little phone with all the technical features that one would need both from the professional and personal perspective. The price tag was also very reasonable for a phone with those qualities and the support, available software and after sales customer care is abundant! The wide spectrum for personal usage is another hi-tech feature of this phone. You can for example have various types of inputs to suit your appeal. Connectivity to wifi, bluetooth and the rest are so efficient and its synchronizing mechanism works perfectly. Recommended!!

  HTC Touch (Ted Baker Edition)
Review created: 23/06/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It has to be said that this has to be one of the nicest Windows Mobile phones out there, for girls! Facts:
1) The Ted Baker Needle is an HTC Touch in a slightly different (nicer looking) case. It has 128MB RAM (like the 2nd edition of the Touch) which is very good for loading apps onto the machine. It runs Windows Mobile v6
2) The Ted Baker edition was only available at the Carphone Warehouse and its European outlets. You will have to go to them for accessories and new stylus's (syylii??)
3) Apart from a Ted Baker startup animation and backdrop, the rest of the phone is identical to the HTC Touch functionally
4) It is a metalic light purple colour, a bit like mauve -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauve . There is a matching Calgel nail varnish (which my wife had on to celebrate!!!)
5) Touchflo (the HTC standard phone interface) is really easy to use and you generally don't need the stylus to do most things. If you would like the interface for other phones that don't have touchflo, go to SPB software and get their Mobile Shell... http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en

Rare as rocking horse teeth, grab one it if comes up and make the wife happy!

the phone is amazing.
possibly the best phone i have ever had.
The only possible downsides that i have encounterd are;
- The battry life isnt that great, but i just stick it on to charge every night.
- I cannot get the weather to work, but i think thats my own fault.
- it takes getting used to, this was my only big problem at first because it was my first touch phone, but after a week or so it was fine.

i would strongly reccomend this phone to anyone out there who doesnt want the awfullness of the iphone or the fiddlyness of a blackburry.

The HTC Touch, also known as the HTC P3450 or its codename the HTC Elf, is a Windows Mobile 6-powered Pocket PC designed and manufactured by HTC. Its main, unique feature is a user interface named TouchFLO [1] that detects a sweeping motion and can distinguish between a finger and a stylus. The TouchFLO features, incorporating stylus-free access to a music player, a photo album, a video player and a picture-based contact book, have been compared by some media[2][3] to the iPhone. [4][5] The global launch of the Touch was in Leicester Square, London, on June 5, 2007 (2007-06-05) [6], and the phone was initially available in two colours: black and green.[7]

In November 2007, HTC started to sell an "Enhanced" Touch (HTC P3452) with double the RAM and ROM of the original version (128MB and 256MB respectively). The newer version is also available in two new colors: white and burgundy.[7]

  HTC Touch Mobile Phone
Review created: 08/03/08
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I've previously used the T-Mobile MDA and have been lusting after a Touch (pardon the pun) for a while. Finally I get my hands on one of the marvellous little monsters, it came locked to T-Mobile but that was easily dealt with in less than ten seconds (honest :) and now I am free to play.

Ok, so look and feel, well I prefer the touch screen input over keypad etc (as with Touch Dual and the like) and I find it responsive and clear, could do with a bit more responsiveness, but then, if it was more responsive would I complain that it's too responsive????? the TouchFlo input option is self explanatory and a joy to use, although if the memory clogs up (as is prone to do with Windows Mobile) it can be a bit on the slow side to start up (about 3 or 4 seconds)but once running everything is fine.

Dimension wise, it is fantastic, not too large, not too small and with its faux rubber original covering it stays where its put when in the car. Compared to my old MDA its a lot slimmer and fits in the pocket without making unsightly bulges, and the touch screen fits flush to the case unlike other touchscreen phones were there is a distinct lip around the screen.

One more can I say, well its got the functionality of any other phone than runs Windows Mobile, the difference is in the TouchFlo interface (it looks like the iPhone interface) and the aesthetics of the phone, I get more than a few glances when using it.

Wireless connectivity is seamless, I am constantly being told about unsecured networks in shopping centres etc - very useful.

The Keyboard is a bit on the small side - you need to use the stylus, but I prefer the Block Recognition where you write in 'Graffitti' I find it much quicker and easier to use, but hey, that's a personal choice.

Ok, I've got one, would I buy one if I needed another - yes, but I would go for the option with built in GPS.

Marks out of ten: 9.5 (can't make it look too perfect!)

Being not so keen on touch screen phones i was still drawn towards the HTC touch for its impressive looks, compactness and innovative technology.
After having used it for a few weeks i found it very fiddly and even making a call is complicated than ever.
Finally i have decided iam not the one for touch screen phones and I have opted for a blackberry instead.
