The Magic Numbers - The Magic Numbers (CD 2005)

I borrowed The Magic Numbers CD from my library, loved it, then bought it here on eBay.

It's unfair to try and categorise the music of The Magic Numbers – 'indie' is as far as I'll go, to which I'll add adjectives such as 'lyrical', 'melodic', and 'distinctive'. Why these? Because on this CD you'll hear thoughtful lyrics that are clearly sung to flowing melodies that rise and fall and carry you along from start to finish.

And what about the finish? The CD has a hidden track at the end, so when track 12, 'Try', fades, do nothing – just be patient for around 4 minutes until track 13, 'Hymn For Her, plays: it's worth the wait, as this track is beautifuly composed, sung and played.

The Magic Numbers were nominated for the Mercury Music Awards 2005, but lost out to one-hit oddball band Antony and the Johnsons, with 'I Am a Bird Now'. I watched the Awards on TV, was bowled over by the performance of Antony and the Johnsons, and rushed out to buy their CD. I can't bear to listen to it now, whereas The Magic Numbers CD has hardly been out of my CD player!

If you're looking for a slightly retro gentle sound, Mamas and Papas-style harmonies and a hint of Leonard Cohen, all updated for us today, give this CD a try. You won't be disappointed.

The band's second album is due for release in November 2006.

The Magic Numbers self titled debut album is a fantastic collection of feelgood, uplifting songs. With a sound comprising of influences from '60's rock and roll to american country and english folk music, these two sets of brothers and sisters comprise to make an overall brilliantly unique and upbeat pop sound which rises wonderfully from amongst so much of the drab music being made at the moment. Every song on this cd could stand alone, each is a joy to listen to and incredibly rich (containing enough material for at least two songs). With extremely well recieved singles 'Love Me Like You' and 'Forever Lost' a nomination for this years Mercury Music Prize and a summer of playing to massive crowds at festivals around the country, the Magic Numbers have established themselves with this record and it is easily worth any money that you pay for it. (My personal favourite tracks are 'Which Way To Happy', 'Love's A Game' and the brilliant secret track 'Him For Her') Brilliant stuff.

I love the magic numbers, they capture so much life into their songs. They're different and unique which makes them extra special. I love to listen to them on summery days or on rainy dreary days as a pick-me-up. Well worth the money I spent and I'm enjoying the album over and over again as it doesn't seem to repeat.

I decided to buy this album having seen Romeo on the TV programme "Never Mind the Buzzcocks" where he came across as a lovely bloke who clearly enjoyed music and life. On my first hearing I was not entirely convinced but it does grow on you and now that the sun is finally here it is a great album to have in the car. A pretty contemporary sound but with a very large nod to the california sound of the late sixties, if you like your music gentle and easy going in a slightly hippy sort of way (no psychadaelia here though) then the Magic Numbers are worth a listen.

Rarely do you find an album complete with good songs. The laidbackness makes this album a great one to sing along to, to work to, to play to, to hang out to, to chill to, to eat to... Incredibly catchy. So simple yet so good.

Bought this album because I really liked track 5 "lOVE ME LIKE YOU" and it's really grown on me as it's a bit different. It's not the best album I've ever listened to and certainly not the worse. A couple of the tracks are a bit weak, but that's par for the course on most albums!! Basically, you won't be disappointed if you think you might like to buy this. If you think you've got this as a bargain on ebay it's definitely worth a listen even if you're not THAT sure!

Since purchasing this CD it has almost claimed top spot in the car CD player - behind The Feeling. A great vibe with wonderful harmonies and simle melodies. The kids think it's a bit 'hippy' but what the hell!! Buy this one and I promise it will grow on you each time you listen.

this is the sixth copy of this cd i have bought it's fantastic, it's that good everytime i leave it at work it gets stolen henth this being the sixth copy!

a must for ever collection

HEARD THIS BAND ON JOOLS HOLLAND SHOW FIRST TIME(PRETTY SURE IT WAS HIS SHOW) ANYWAY, THOUGHT THEY WERE BRILL. BOUGHT THIS CD ON THE BACK OF WATCHING THEM. VERY GOOD CD AND WHAT I WAS EXPECTING. 10/10

Good CD. There are a number of good tracks on this album and a couple of great ones. Didn't quite live up to my expectations, but still goo.

Quite a nice album. Just as you'd expect from the Indie genre. A lot like Athlete/Travis.
Could do better without the female vocalist, as the male lead singers voice is quite something when he puts his soul into it. I give it a 7/10

Not my usual style i must admit, yes im into the whole indie band music, but a band i rather feels hits a niche market within a realy big one. However this album does the job if you feel the need for a uplifting 60mins, and with im sure you already no, if harmonies arw your cup of tea, these wll blow your mind.Yes this album may not be my favourite of all time or get into my top 10, bt its still enjoyable

ive been looking for this cd for a while for the right price and the cd was at the right price and it was brand new BARGAIN

I was disappointed to be honest. The singles have been fantastic, but the album bored me! It did not live upto the hype, and I know that is just my opinion but is this a case of the 'Emperor's new clothes' syndrome?
