LOOT - DVD film based on Joe Orton play

The DVD was bought because (a) I saw the play on stage recently, (b) I had previously read the play, and (c)it will be produced by my drama group next year.
In my opinion the film is nowhere near as good as the stage play. Richard Attenborough as the police inspector gives a heavy-handed interpretation to a normally very funny role and the acting of the two young men in the other lead parts was not particularly noteworthy. The one redeeming performance was that of Lee Remick as the nurse who has mysteriously outlived her seven previous husbands and inherited their money!
If you want a good laugh then you might think about reading the marvellously politically incorrect script (published by Methuen) or watch the play on stage. This DVD runs for 98 minutes and is somewhat in the "Carry On..." style that was popular in 1970. It's a farce about the loot from a bank robbery being hidden in an occupied coffin and the resulting chaos and police investigation.
