) This is one of my favourite musicals and an absolute feast for the senses.
As well as having a swiftly moving plot packed with romance, intrigue, and plenty of comedy to keep it light, the film is set in post-war Paris and the sets and costumes reflect this in their chic style and vivid colours. The incredible music is by Ira and George Gershwin and contains many famous standards including, 'S'Wonderful, S'Marvelous!' 'Love is Here to Stay' and 'Who Could Ask for Anything More?' The dancing is Gene Kelly at his best, both as lead and choreographer. Leslie Caron is his beautiful leading lady, with a French accent to die for!
All in all, it's one of those films that leaves you feeling insanely happy for the rest of the day, so is well worth watching!

An american in Paris DVD 2003
) Obviously set in Paris Gene Kelly is superb as the GI who chooses to stay in Paris after the war.
His singing, and dancing, are as always great and the young Leslie Caron who he woos is also charming, and is in my opinion a greatly underated actress.
The songs are great and the scenery ,obviously not shot in Paris, are effective enough.
I love Gene Kelly and think this is apart from "Singin in the the Rain" his other best movie. If you like Gene Kelly you will definately love this movie.

) I first saw this film many years ago and was thrilled by the music and dance sequences by Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron, who was making her screen debut. The film is set in Paris and the story and screen play is by Alan Jay Lerner, and lyrics by Ira Gershwin. The choreography is superb, especially the famous 17 minute ballet sequence at the end, although my particular favourite is the scene featuring Gene singing and dancing to "I Got Rhythm" with a number of French children. The only aspect which I found slightly irritating, watching it in 2007, is the false scenery, but this is just a minor matter and certainly doesn't detract from this classic American film which won six Academy Awards.
The run time is 109 minutes approx, and it is a delightful film for all ages.

A fantastic classic hollywood musical.Filmed on location in Paris,the performances by Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron (as well as a great supporting cast) are captivating.The story of a young american artist living in Paris and the girl he falls in love with is magical.Songs by Gershwin have you singing along but the most well known section of this film-the 15 minute ballet sequence is fantastic. An excellent film, well recommended.
