The Damned - just hear the click of those jackboots

I didn't just chance on this film on ebay. I saw the film on TV some years ago and I searched ebay to find it. I want to see it again and i want my wife to have the opportunity of seeing it.
This is the story of a family - a dynasty of industrialists - living through the Nazi rise to power in the 1930s.
It portrays historical events such as the 'night of the long knives', when the blackshirts rubbed out the brownshirt leadership - and the way it that is treated is incredible.
And it has the wheeling and dealing and lying and scheming, and the double-crosses that result in one side of the family falling and the other rising and making its deal with the nazis.
And who do the nazis choose to deal with - they deal with the one they recognize.
And through it all there is a chill wind of impending evil.
It is luxuriously shot and beautifully and intelligently timed and edited. The plot develops in such a sure-footed way that never lets go of the viewer.
A knowledge of a little of European history at the time will help, but even without it, just watch the actors dance their dance while heading towards a pact with evil or the only other way out.
A great film.
